These must be "really" special to retail for nearly $500.00, however massdrop's collaboration lets you have these for a "wonderful" price of nearly $200.00! Wow! Betcha, all plastic, with some fab magnets for drivers that will underwhelm you once you listen to them. Oh but hold on, lets not forget the "real " leatherette pouch as part of the purchase, yay! Really peeps? Quite sure that there are comparable IEM's that will "excel" at a much lower price point fer sure...Oh well in this age of consumerism we gotta have it, cause it will make me "special" for a few minutes until the next better thing comes along...

XpfreakyI am guessing you are not across the multi driver IEM situation. At this price there is no a 4 driver IEM in the market, let alone with the crossover design they've created. Now, I am not saying it's good or great - I've not heard it, but I've seen reviews and everyone agrees it's a hell of an IEM even for $500 with some saying there is a choice at that price point. However, at $200 I am sure it's a steal. I've got one just to try it out... alas I don't really need an IEM (running an Audeze cans), but I want to see how my equipment can make these sound. Also, as you are probably aware NuForce have got a lineup of new IEM (including the 4 driver one), which raises a question why and I am sure puts a confusion in the minds of many. So, it's not unreasonable to assume they are out loading a stock of the 'old' IEMs till to resolve that issue. Makes sense to me...

XpfreakyAlso, to append my original comment, I've got these as these appear to be the only multi driver IEMs that are small enough to fit my ear canals! I've got Klipsch X10 lying somewhere and those are the only ones I could comfortably wear as the nozzle is small enough. The NuForce are same size, so I've got to hope they will fit as well.

sirkuttinHey man, I've got more words for you. Now, I've used my Primo 8s for the last 2-3 days with the following rigs: 1. iPhone 7 USB, Schiit Wyrd, Chord Hugo (DAC/AMP) 2. iPhone 7 USB, Schiit Wyrd, Chord Hugo (DAC), Schiit Lyr 2 (AMP; stock tubes) 3. iPhone 4s, Pure i20 (SPDIF out), Chord Hugo (DAC/AMP)
I also have a Schiit Bimby, but have not tried it with as the Hugo is just a jem. But shout out if you want me to form an opinion for it.
My usual 'everyday' headphones are Audeze LCD-XC, so the bar is pretty high when it comes to sound. I do not stand sibilance when it comes to sound. I did tried to compare the Primos to my old and rarely used Klipsch X10 IEMs.
IMPRESSIONS: Rig [3]: All I can say the sound is great (no annoying characteristics), however a bit too analytical in the voice range. Voices really pop out and are super clear and detailed. I immediately noticed that I pick up what's actually being sung as opposed to listening to the composition as a whole. Drums sound great and very well separated. However, just like with voices it appears they are so well presented that it takes away from the whole of the composition.
Rig [2]: The detailed character of the rig [3] is gone. They simply sound very well and I can't spot any obvious problems. Tubes?
Rig [1]: It's like [2], but noticeably cleaner sound with more musicality to it. So, like [2], but more to my taste.
MY RATING: - Audeze is just more musical. The sound is alive. - Primo 8 is more analytical then I would like to, but nothing to complain about. I think it comes down to the fact that they are fast responding IEMs due to the drivers nature. I actually listened to them several hours in one go and it was ok. With Audeze here and there you just notice they you want to play a song once again just for the sound. That's the difference. - Klipsch X10s. Albeit good, I would pick the Primo 8s anyday. The Primo's feel like a complete no compromise package, whereas the Klipsch X10s immediately feel limited here and there although still good sounding. But certainly less impressive down below. I'd say the Klipsches sound a tad warmer...
IMPORTANT - COMFORT: With the foam tips the Primo 8s are wonderfully comfortable... I can't use no IEMs other than the Klipsch due to the size of the nozzle. It's typically quite big and just hurts my ears. The Primos are great in that regard - no complaints whatsoever. I purchased a pair of Zero Audio Carbo Tenore a few months back and just could not judge they sound properly as I could stand the pain. Just to give you an indication that the Primos are just great.
CONCLUSION: For $200 it's a freaking steal. I am not sure what else among closed head/earphones can be sounding that good. Unless you are after a particular sound signature. I am keeping these for when I need good isolation and portability.
I AM WEIRD GUY: I have just purchased 2 pairs of ATH-ES5 to complement my 7 years old pair... I just love the sound. They always impress me - reminiscent of the Audeze in this regard. So, if you like me I'd suggest you to try these. I got them for like $25 and these are nowhere to be seen anymore!

StereotomyHey!
Thanks for the update. I got my pair end of May. I felt the same way about the mid-range and felt my rock like Deftones and NIN to he unlistenable. That is until I tried 10 different ear tips. I recommend the gray silicone ear tips that came with my Shure. You might find they balance the mid-range a bit. Indeed, they sure are fast. Classical music is such a treat.
I only have one dac amp at the moment. Looking to get a tube preamp and see how that does things!
I am a big fan of planars too. Maybe the isine20 is the way to go?

sirkuttinYeah, I am pretty sure the tips will do the job. I am going to pick some up for sure! I looked at the Comply P series or some longer pro Etymotics.

StereotomyAhh i have been meaning to get some comply p series. Another trick for the comply that came with it, use a larger size tip than you normally do. That also helped balance it out for me. I had used med size in the past for other is. However, with such a small bore on these I opted for the large tip. They fit great and balanced the sound.
