lshriverI'm curious myself... just got PX from Massdrop and the sub bass and impact are very light on the P1/PX (for me) I'm surprised because I'm not a bass head.

StevePAI got the PX a couple weeks ago, I don't find it bass light at all.... not bass heavy but right where it should be, did you try changing tips? It was bass light for me until I put in the largest foam tips (apparently I have big ear canals) so maybe a different tip would fit your ears better and have more bass? I use a Fiio X3-ii so maybe it's that instead of using a phone though, but even with a phone I didn't think it was bass light

lshriverI think I need a dragonfly for an amp. Even with the comply foam they just don't dig deep--- their freq. response curve looks very nice for the bass- I think since they exaggerate the upper midrange they almost sound like British speakers with SET amps to me..... a lot of upper mid and no bass 'impact'... my grados sound dark in comparison. Perplexed. I'm very bothered because these are my first set of phones that have not sounded like the reviews I have read... I will try the LARGE tips tonight. Thanks for the suggestion!

StevePAYep, idk what the dragonfly has for features, but if you want more bass I think the Fiio E17k portable amp has a bass boost feature (and if it adds too much, you can turn it off. It's like a 3 DB bass boost) but an amp should help. Certain phones and computers just don't have enough power For true audio gear.

lshriverWell I bought a DragonFly red... it's not much more powerful than the standard iPhone 7 included external DAC/Amp! When you plug it into a computer it ROCKs- but plugged into an IOS device the dragonfly's output and current is probably halved. I haven't read that mentioned anywhere before... and ive come to think that I need an efficient headphone solution for my iPhone even if I'll continue to use IEMs. The Pinnacle PX is not a good match.
** to add... the PX with the DF Red plugged into my MacBook sounds very-very natural and the deep registerers of bass are present and articulate. A 'studio' type sound. They are just silly current hungry and a bad match for iPhone**

StevePAThat sounds about right. phones as a general rule (I'm sure there's exceptions) don't have a lot of power they can push Via port (lightning, USB, etc) where a computer can push much higher amperage through the same standard port. For example a phone might push 800 milliwatts through its port while a USB 3.0 port on a MacBook could push somewhere between 1 and 3 watts, more wattage being able to help with sounding natural as the impedance of the dragonfly is most likely not negligible. E17k or similar battery powered dac amp might be more bulky and less convenient but it'll have a fair amount more power Driven with a phone or low end DAP.

lshriverThanks for the insight Ishriver... I think there will be a lot of people who buy a DF exclusively for their iOS device, only to be let down by this 'unmentioned' dramatic reduction in power output when used with an IOS device. Damn, the Fiio sounds like what I really should have bought! I thought I needed to drop Oppo or Hugo coin for such a well reviewed device with these features. Shot myself in the foot for not looking into Fiio again (I had a small amp of there's that died in 4 months so I swore them off).

StevePAThere's non Fiio options too, it's just that I like Fiio E17k's combination of bass boost and battery power. Pretty much any well reviewed dac/amp around $100 that has a battery (key word, battery) will probably do great. The only one I own though is the e17k, most of my other stuff is more desktop use than portable. When you have battery power you're not limited on current no matter what device is the media player, and that's what I like about it.
