RochRx7Yes, and depends greatly. If you really want to start producing music, specifically EDM, the very basic is a decent computer with any DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software program that you see fit (i.e. Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton, Fruity Loops, etc), Ableton is a good one, a lot of people like Fruity Loops because it's pretty easy for absolute beginners and you can download a trial for free or something.
In terms of hardware, the only ones that are definitely necessary are a decent computer and an audio interface (some may refer to it as a "soundcard" but that has other implications). Another one that isn't exactly "essential" but would benefit you without being useless would probably be a simple MIDI keyboard, but even then for dance music in general it isn't exactly an absolute necessity.
Learn how to use your DAW and your audio interface and all its bells and whistles then you can start concerning about other MIDIs and controllers and whatnot to make an easier interface to work with.
DJ contollers and DJ equipment are mainly for DJing. As in creating mixes or just generally playing back music. Not really for producing (i.e. "making EDM").
Lurk forums, reviews, discussions, etc if you're interested in pursuing it.
RochRx7I am not an expert by any means but I have been doing some research. From what I've read; This is for the mixing aspect of DJing and not really the content creation side of EDM. For content creation you should use software such a FL Studio. But content creation seems very daunting and mixing looks like a great way to get acquainted with EDM music and see what makes it tick. So no this mixer is not very useful for content creation but it is useful a good stepping stone for getting there. Hope this helped and once again not an expert just giving my 2 cents.
toplelBro, thanks for being godlike. Glad I don't get much snarky condescending replies like I usually do from sites outside of Massdrop.. this community is great.
