For something of this quality would it not make sense to drop the base version? I would not want to pay for a sound card in a controller that only lasts a year or two. (source: my old mixtrack I am trying to replace)

TR1CKYTR1CKY,
Sorry you have had issues with you other controller, by base version I assume you mean the Mixtrack 2, am I correct?
If so, then the issue would be the same for whatever controller by whichever company. The particular sound card is not the issue, it does not go out of date as much as software and interface enhancements force changes in how products interact. If a part on a controller, whether it be internal or external, goes bad after 2+ years of use, that is unfortunate but to be expected. These Mixtrack Pro 2 controllers have been on the market for a few years and have had a good performance record. I am sure there have been those who have had problems with it as well, since no product is perfect.
That being said, if you are looking to upgrade then this is a good step up from the Mixtrack 2 or Mixtrack Pro even.
