Always a little tentative when buying an 'affordable' fountain pen, but since that's all I can afford, this OHTO drop was worth a shot.
I got the Poche in diamond with a fine nib and a Tasche in blue with a fine nib.
The first impression you'll get when opening this package is that these pens are tiny! You might think these are too short or too small in girth. Once you post the cap on either of them, you'll see that they are not too short. As for their diameter, that's more subjective. My fingers are on the short and stubby side, but I can handle these quite well.
You will need to rinse them out first with either plain water or slightly soapy water. I always try the included cartridges before doing anything to see if they're a fast starter or not. Not a fast starter. But once you rinse them out, they're pretty good.
The nibs on these two are a touch scratchy. Barely, though. Just a bit of feedback. Not as much static as I found with some Nemosines.
The width of line is appropriate, in my eye, for a fine nib. It's a bit finer than the fine nib on the Faber-Castel Loom. Line variation is pretty good for the type and fineness of the nib. A bit more so than the Loom. A lot more so than my Nemosines.
The ink that comes with them is faint and watery. That might just be due to the rinsing, but there was a good amount of drying and testing and they never seemed to get much darker.
The Tasche is a pen that I'm likely to keep in my laptop bag as a backup, or drop in my pocket when I have to run from my desk. The blue and silver colours and no-nonsense lines says engineer to me. I'm good with that.
The Poche is, well, posh. The domed ends and almost Art Deco design sense makes it eye-catching. The crystal on the cap dome makes it look more expensive than it is. It's tasteful, not garish at all. This is one that I'm likely to put in the inside pocket of a suit or blazer for social events, where I might need to jot down a name or number.
I'll work the pens longer and see if I can reduce the scratchiness of the nibs. It'll probably just take some time.
I'm happy with the pens that I got, especially for the price. Happy enough that I will try some other OHTO pens in the future.
