I shall add something too. I notice a hot pixel at near the top right corner and a bright pixel somewhere near the middle. These appear on every picture, particularly bad in low light conditions. Such defects on the sensor are eventualities, and thankfully olympus has a built-in pixel remapping function, but for an advertised brand new camera, I don't think this should happen. So maybe all our cameras do come with defects/used, that's why the pricing is quite low. I won't be requesting a refund for this drop, too much trouble, plus I'm actually quite happy with the camera. Looks awesome and really respectable image quality. For future buyers, please take note of what you are getting yourself into. And lastly for massdrop, do kindly reflect on this false advertising, do try to uphold the reputation you have painstakingly earned

ZQow, I don't think that cameras on this drop was some kind of really defected. In my opinion it was a stores cleaning - all this 20 cameras was an live example units in different stores. So someone got fingerprints or any another small artefacts, that does not reduce quality of the camera or images.
I'm pretty happy with mine, but as for gift for somebody - not this time. And the fact, that cameras was new, but opened - definitely should be in description. Especially if someone buy it for a gift.
I also got a one green hot pixel in centre (fixed with pixel remapping). Also after some long series (20-40 shots) with long exposure many temporarily hot pixel shows up. But also magically disappear after stop shooting for about a minute. And this is also isn't a failure - just a sensor overheating.
Anyway - I share your feelings and happy with my unit too. :)

Perhaps defective was too strong a word to use. And I believe your explanation of the cameras being live examples is certainly plausible, that explains the shutter count, finger prints, scuff marks. Maybe even the hot pixels as the store noticed them and made them test cameras instead of disappointing customers.
Ultimately we do all have different expectations I guess. I do not like receiving something I did not pay for, a good price doesn't justify anything. Furthermore if it's not bnib, I can actually get it for the same price in singapore.
It would be good for massdrop to explore this case of miscommunication. Maybe even give a statement here. Don't worry I won't be asking for a refund :)
Btw thanks for that Amazon link, I bought 1 for myself too :) currently looking for a good deal on a prime lens (50mm equivalent).
And My 5 cents to discussion about new/used bodies. Mine got about 320 shots and no any visual defects. Also in the box I found an SD card with about 30 shots. :) Thank You, Secret Santa!!! ;) So it in my eyes it was new but opened and tested.
But you know, last evening when all was charged, pumped and configured, I shot about 600 shots only while playing with camera. Burst mode really hungry eats shots count! :) Anyway - I'm happy with this camera!
P.S. This January 2016, 40-150/4-5.6 zoom from Olympus only $99!!! Check it out on Amazon or Olympus store! US Only, but Amazon ships worldwide. What a great surprise for every newcomer! :D
Got notification from local post office - additional 69.25 Euro (~75 USD) for VAT. :( Till the last moment I hope that this drop will be delivered without any additional payments. But anyway, 400 EUR in total are still much lower than ~700 in local shops. :)
Just received my camera. Mine came brand new with nothing to suggest its a used product, shutter count was 23.
I have yet to receive my order, but if what you said is true, this will be my first and last time purchasing from massdrop. I just cancelled my order for the fjallraven bag, luckily still had the time to.
Beware - I received my camera today. It is used (or notably shop-worn) merchandise. Most accessories appear new but body is scuffed, bears a worn price tag ("4,999.00"), and is accompanied by the wrong model battery charger. I've contacted Massdrop to see if they'll do anything about it.

My son also ordered one of these cameras from Massdrop. Although it showed some handling (a fingerprint on the lens), its shutter count was only 60 so he considered it new and kept it. I decided to return my package and Massdrop immediately refunded the price including tax and shipping via PayPal and sent me a paid return label. So although I am disappointed with the purchase, I am satisfied with the way Massdrop resolved the situation.

It seems like the entire batch of cameras is not brand new

See my complaint on this list. Support just said "Contact the manufacturer." But the charger is the wrong item and the camera is used or shop-worn. Will Massdrop do anything to make me whole?
Great news! The group’s order was picked up from the vendor and is now on its way to our warehouse in New Jersey. Given the tracking information provided, our warehouse team expects the shipment to come in by 12/23 and will be ready to get the order repacked and off to you as soon as it comes in.
Occasionally the shipment experiences a delay en route, but rest assured that we will keep the group updated throughout the entire process and let you know if something causes it to be set back.
We are thankful for your continued patience and you can expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 12/28 or earlier if anything comes up.
Hey Massdrop, Can you tee this one up again but with the 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 lens? This camera is very well sealed against the elements...but not with the 14-42mm lens it isn't! Thanks.
You made it happen! We’re excited to let you all know that the drop was successful and the order has now been placed with the vendor for the Olympus OM-D E-M5 with 14-42mm Lens (Black). As soon as they are done preparing the shipment and once we receive it at our warehouse in New Jersey we will break it down into individual orders and have them on their way to each of you! We currently expect your orders to leave our warehouse by 1/4.
Rest assured, throughout the process we’ll do our best to update you all regarding the status of your order and where it’s at along the way. Check back for an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 12/21 .
i was just about to get one then it ended.... wtf??
urghhex
yeah it's called they were only selling 20 of them and you were too slow
Since the drop ended early, will shipping date also be brought forward?
What kind of warranty does it have? It's not clear from the FAQ. From the FAQ, it gives you the impression of something like: contact us, and we'll see what we can do about it.
1 year? 2 years?
Or would the vendor accept a RMA for this camera?
360$, yes it's a good price, but if it arrives DOA, it won't be that cheap anymore. Customs taxes, shipping return costs, etc.
Is this kit lens weather sealed? Does anybody know?
giannakosball
No.
I am staying in Singapore and this would be my first massdrop purchase. Since this product does not have warranty included, what are my options if it comes DOA?

Read the FAQ.
-.-' I just bought a mark II
If it's MK2 I'd be more than happy to buy it. Otherwise it overlaps with what I have now in functionality.
This is a ridiculous amount of camera for this price. I've had this camera for a couple of years now and it is just about perfect. While the newer OM-D models are great and even have several improvements, it would be hard to justify the extra $500 one would need to spend to get there. I paid over $1,000 for this same kit and have never been so pleased with a digital camera buy at that price.
This is an amazing deal! If I didn't already own it, I'd be all over it! As an advanced enthusiast, I've gotten some amazing shots out of this, though I definitely suggest expanding your lens stash if you're new to m4/3. If the Mark II comes up, I'd definitely consider upgrading!
Which exact lens will this come with? There are a few different oly 14-42mm lenses.
I also own this body (not the lens) and love it. Replaced my old Canon 10D, 24-70L, 70-200L, and 17mm prime with m4/3. Great system!
Great deal! No warranty, but it goes for about this price used.
StreakInTheSky
Why no warranty? Does it say that somewhere?
jonathanb715
It doesn't say that. Read the FAQ.
I already have this camera, and love it. Highly recommend it! The compact size and relatively inexpensive lenses available make it a great everyday camera.
why does it say "wireless function"? Wireless function: AV/USB multi, HDMI D micro, USB 2.0
expansion
@expansion,
It should have said "Connectivity" and it has been changed in the Body specs. Thanks for pointing that out.
Cheers!
I want to buy it, but I'm affraid of the 40-50% customs/VAT taxes. Can we do anything about it? A smaller declared shipping price?

Read the FAQ. Massdrop will not do this, as you may know, it's illegal.
Is this the Mark I or II?
ArneNL
Mark I. Too bad they don't have them in silver, it seems.
