Okay, question from someone who hasn't touched a YoYo in like a decade. If I wanted a quality YoYo at a reasonable price, should I even give this a second glance or are there better "starter" YoYos that aren't cheap plastic ones that make me angry?

DynamiklolThis would not be a recommended first Yoyo. Something like a Magic N12 or Shutter would probably be a better more affordable option.

DynamiklolI got a Yoyofactory Velocity a few years ago ,,, the newer version , and its been a great reintroduction to yoyos....
It has hubs you can loosen or tighten depending on how tight you want a return or not at all depending on how your using it. Its inexpensive but not cheap , the polymer is tough stuff and pretty sure it has ball bearings and a sticky pad for the return.
There might be better starter yoyos on the market since then ....
I dig yoyos but not 100$ worth at least not at the moment cool yoyo though

DynamiklolYeah I'd have to agree with BrendanWelsh something like a Magic N12 is probably a better place for you to start out at. Its not cheap but yet its no where near $100 at the same time yet its still a decent piece.

DrSkyedI feel like the DMII is kinda overrated. It has high walls, and is a little heavy. I feel far more comfortable recommending the YYJ Classic+ upgrade kit. For half the price they can get a yoyo with low walls and a lighter weight.

DynamiklolIf you know how to bind and are ready for an unresponsive yoyo, the summit is an awesome throw. If you just said to yourself: "Whats a bind?", you should look for a responsive yoyo (one that comes back when you pull it). If you want a metal reponsive yoyo heres one many would reccomend: dv888 responsive editiom http://shop.yoyoexpert.com/product/1290/YYF-DV888-Starter-Set
You can even upgrade it to become unresponsive with the included larger bearing.
Happy throwing. If you want more info feel free to ask!

HubbaMaBubbaThese days, I don't see a problem with it at all. Plastics have there place but in the current market you can get a metal at an entry level price that beats the pants off of any plastics.
