I was a little hesitant to spend this much for a machete. I usually get the Tramontinas with the spring steel on the cheap. They have served me well. But I liked the steel and the micarta handle so I pulled the trigger. Just got it today and I'm glad I did. The balance just slightly forward and is perfect for a weapon as well as a chopper . I'm a big fan of micarta and the handle is comfortable and grippy. I have not cut with it yet, but I know that is not a problem. If these come up at this price again I will get another.
m0arpheusThat knife is not powder coated, not quality steel, not micarta handles, and 4 inches shorter. The price difference reflects a dramatic quality difference in a product aimed at a different purpose.
bitheadAfter researching the machete I posted further, I have to agree the blades are quite different in materials used. The machete I posted is made out of inferio 1095 carbon and the handle, without question, is shittier. That being said, what's the difference in purpose between the two machetes? They both are machetes, both have 3mm thick blades (as far as I can tell) and both are long enough to be used to whack away pushes and strong enough to break open coconuts (the fruit I would be tackling enthusiastically with either).
Is it me, or is the tip different than the normal Ontario bushcraft machete?
This one is more pointed, the point is more "upswept".
Are the photos manipulated? Or is the blade configuration in fact different?
ontario supplies the regular version of the bushcraft machete with a sheath specifically for this knife. I just can't find the sheath sold by itself from any online dealer. I like how the description suggests to use it as a self defense weapon...I didn't think it needed to be stated so obviously, but yes.
Yea, no problem - I was just letting you know incase you were shopping around, a lot of machetes aren't sold with sheaths. Mine sits in the garage on a nail- but Rothco makes a good nylon machete sheath.
ISKGarage nail is not a good place for a bushcraft machete :) It has to be on one's hip, so can you please elaborate on which particular sheath fits this blade?
