My coverman picked up both the Rat 1 and 2 on Amazon. He has big hands so he prefers the 1 but there are times the smaller one comes in handy. He says the Nylon scales have a really nice feel to them...they certainly do not feel like plastic. Someone on Amazon noted that the lateral aspects of the top of the blade are actually sharp, so my coverman decided to do two things at once. He slightly rounded the top edges and he sanded and then polished the blade to a mirror finish...it looks good. As for the AUS8, he has no problem with it. He does not even bother with stopping compound....usually he first uses a steel to hone and then he has an old leather belt for stopping. He can shave hair off his arm when he is finished! Once he dropped the knife on its tip. He had no problem reprofiling the tip and you would not know the difference. Another time while stopping it fell on the side of the blade...he had to adjust the tension to center the blade again....still going strong. Great knife he says for EDC in situations where you might lose it....not expensive. Not like losing your Benchmade Barage in M390!

BogarteMy rat 2 is my go to when there is a chance I could lose or forfeit a blade. Concerts and events etc.
The spine is 90° which feels "sharp", strike a ferrocium rod with it. 90° spines are great for that!

namhodYour Aus8 will get rounded in no time. In emergency, sure, but as a use/camp setup no way.
