brewster@brewster, they certainly want you to think they are but there site always mentions they are "an Australia BASED company/brand" and I haven't found a single reference where they mention any of their products are made in Australia.
brewsterSo many reasons. Here are a few:
Many countries use manufacturing chemicals and techniques which you may or may not have allergies to.
Different countries have different worker laws and the purchaser may not was to support child labor.
Austrailia has very detailed laws on how you can present information about country of origin and I believe Orchill is pushing this right to the edge and it feels like they had a legal team review each mention of "Australian based". Confusing and/or misleading information in regards to the country of origin can get you in trouble even if you do not mentioning country of origin. Australia even has a long guide explaining the law here http://www.accc.gov.au/system/files/Country%20of%20origin%20claims%20%26%20the%20ACL.pdf
Another reason might be value based on country of origin. Often times people find pride (or in some cases disgust) about products made in their country or another one. I have gotten some bad and lower quality products from some countries. That doesn't mean every product is bad but it certainly should not be ignored.
If no other reason the market value for items from certain countries is different. Go out and look for an Italian leather sofa, then look for one which doesn't say wear it is from. Regardless of quality you will pay more for one with leather made from Italy.
Jim_Thanks for the response Jim. I appreciate that answer. Very informative and will definitely make me seek further information on some of the goods that I purchase in the future.
brewsterNo problem. I just got a response from Orchill and they said they do some small work in Australia but the production is mainly in China. I appreciate that they told me right away. I should have just emailed them straight away as I missed the drop.
