I bought an Orient off here a few months ago, and for the inexpensive price, its a damn beautiful watch. I get more compliments on it than my 1K-4K watches, its heavy, it looks nice under a magnifying glass, and I'd probably buy another Orient some time in the future.

I just can’t deal with non-hacking movements anymore.

Really like the value of Orient watches, and I've been tempted by the Defender for a long time now... though just on the edge for me at 42mm. Yes, the movement could use an upgrade. But a great dial design and really nice looking in gray and cream (IMO). Someday, someday. FYI - same price or cheaper from two U.S. authorized sellers. I've bought from both and was very happy with the service, quality, etc.

This is a great highend field watch, the face colors are unique, the complications work well. Note to set the Day you need to run back to midnight and forward to 4am for each day of the week, also for those wondering about the "half day" pointing of the day hand, it has to do with the movement being used in other watches that have a second language showing in a window, simply go to 2am and roll back to midnight to click the day hand one click to get it lined up with the day of the week.

dnoblettDid you say 'high end'? Were you being serious? What would be at the low end in autos, in your opinion, if this is high end?

I'll be all over this once they update the movement to the one that's in the newest iteration of the Sun & Moon. Not sure why that watch got the upgrade a few years back while the Defender was left to soldier on (see what I did there?) with the antiquated, non-hacking, non-handwindning engine.

NikoToscaniFully agree! Hacking is a must for a feild watch. I'm not getting this until it gets updated

On the bright side it seems to be fairly thin at 11.5mm (~ on par w/ the Glycine combat Sub and the Seiko Sarb series). On the not so bright side, 22mm lugs and a subpar movement hurts. For one it costs them nothing to add hacking/hand winding...….. plus the 22mm lugs looks to be slightly disproportionate on this watch, 20mm would have been a better choice. Nothing devastating or unexpected at this price point but less than desirable. W/ that said, it has visual appeal and a catchy name. Not to mention, at ~$100 you can't expect perfection. So, what should you do? Do not acquire this as an impulse buy, otherwise it's a nice watch overall. Furthermore, I doubt that steel bracelet is of great quality. Save $10 and get the band. Or throw it onto a Nato/similar strap like below. Worn and Wound has done a decent review on this watch, so I've thrown the link to that below.

SpiritOneIt's not just a bracelet. Case finish is also different. Leather strap versions have beat blasted case, and bracelet versions have brushed case.

SpiritOneAlways go for the steel bracelet version--occasionally, even inexpensive bracelets aren't half bad and you'll never find a crapy one for ten bucks. On the other hand, you can buy dozens of NATO and Zulus for peanuts and swap them out as you like. Should you decide to flip a watch later, your unworn, pristine stainless bracelet will help you fetch top-dollar.

Always liked the design but just can't get my head around lack of hacking and winding. I need that little bit of interaction with my watch. Will reluctantly pass again.

Kind of like that grey dial for a change of pace (FET0N002K0). I can think of a lot of 22mm straps that would work with. At $120 (after the -$10), MD beats Jomashop by about five bucks and Amazon by four bucks. Of course with Amazon, the extra $4 also gets you two-day delivery (for Prime members). Hmm...decisions, decisions...

I've bought multiple watches from Joma right up to about $2k. I think they're great as long as you know exactly what you're getting in to - the money you save means the warranty isn't going to be worth spit. At the sub $300 price point, I don't think it matters very much.

NikoToscaniI agree, I think warranties are over rated. I've never (knock, knock) had occasion to use one (yet ;- )
