The transition from the clock to the wristwatch didn’t happen overnight. The missing link between the two, the pocket watch, has since become a mark of antiquity and a callback to a simpler era Read More

Got my pocket watch today. It's a lot smaller than I expected but I like it! Anyone know where I can find a better chain for it? I'd like something that feels more substantial.

CrabMcNastyUPDATE: The clip on the chain sucks. It never stays clipped! Also, this watch runs about 25 seconds fast per day. My search continues for an awesome pocket watch.

I am looking forward to this watch. I generally wear wristwatches, but this was a had to have for me and at such a great price. The funny thing, I have tried to restrain my watch buying on Massdrop this year. I feel good that this will be only my second watch for the year.

Quick question: does this version have a textured face like the ones on Orient's site? It's hard to tell from the pictures here on Massdrop.

Amon-RukhOnline, everywhere i found this item, it has a guilloche dial. The description mentions it as well. Looks like a great piece!

It has a sapphire crystal face. In my experience, the steel case will be all scratched up after a couple decades but the glass will still look brand new.

Would be interested but the exposed glass face in your pocket is recipe for disaster.

P1MPBOT5000Actually, a watch on your wrist is much more exposed, as your arm swings around, so since I believe you would be fine. IMHO.
P1MPBOT5000Sapphire crystals are only scratchable by diamond (it may be possible to harden some metallic alloy to the point where it could wear down sapphire/ruby/corrundum, but if so I have never heard of it and it wouldn't be used for anything you might carry in your pocket), so the crystal would be safe in your pocket with anything you might put in there. The case would end up looking like crap after a few days in a pocket with your keys, though.
The thing is, people have carried around keys and change for as long as pocket watched have existed on this planet. The secret is to choose your accessories (for instance, this watch) to match your clothes. When pocket watches were in their hayday, people wore more clothing, like suits and vests, and the watch would be attached to a button hole and stored in a vest pocket made specifically for a pocket watch. These days you can still wear a vest, but if that isn't your thing most men's blue jeans have a small watch pocket on the right side. You can also find leather pocket watch holders that clip to your belt or can have a belt looped though them to give it a place to be safely carried. If none of the above are available to me, I will set aside a "safe" pocket for my watch and carry anything else that is metallic in another pocket.
When I'm out of options, I wear one of my wristwatches (which is actually what I normally do... I bust my pocket watch out when I want to feel special for a day).

I really wonder if I wear both wristwatch and pocket watch at the same time then will people see me as a weirdo... I really like the usability and the fashion aspect of wristwatch, and I also like that unique feeling when reaching to the pocket, take the watch out, click open, see the time, close it, and lastly put it back like a real hardcore :))

guisess93From the pix, there is no clamshell protector over the front of the watch, to click open and then close... My old Bulova pocket watch front clamshell does show lots of scratches and wear, and I did not abuse the watch. I'm not in the market for another pocket watch, but I am not sure how one would protect the front of this watch. Other than that issue, I like this watch. Just my 2 cents.

guisess93I have done it. Some people think it's funny. But, as a Mental Health Counselor, I don't worry about what people think, if you enjoy wearing both I say, "Go for it"!

Casebook is not solid or the picture is wrong. I wore a Bulova pocket watch for years, and they are neat. Mine had a clam shell front to protect the crystal......It's certainly an old-fashioned and lovely look, IMHO. Harkens back to the days when men wore 3-piece suits (i.e., with a vest). I was very careful with mine, still have it, but don't wear it any more.

AltruismYep, I might cancel my order if not, I really love the blue hands and I'd rather pay more for the one I really want even though this one is a really great bargain!
