Is there a chance to get the "White face - silver" Flavor? I waited for this one to come up - and it sims that a vast cluster of people pointed out here that they would as well purchase the "White face - silver" so dear Massdrop team, please show your leadership with the supplier and make it happen for us. Waiting for your Many thanks in advance, Ilan
Would have joined if white face-silver bezel option was still available. Disappointing.
I really enjoy mine; here's a photo of it with a different band.

Just curious - what strap is that? Seems perfect for the vintage/art deco look.
kpcorbin
Hey kpcorbin! That is just a simple stitch or two stitch band I bought on that site that rhymes with Betsy. Remember, the Monarch has an 18mm lug width.
I purchased the white dial model here the last time it was available. I really like it, and wear it daily over more expensive watches. Off the wrist the case appears quite thick (tall?), but as others mentioned, it does seem to wear smaller. My only complaint is that the second and minute hands can be hard to tell apart at a glance. Of course, that might be down to my eyesight.
I bought black-faced one a year ago--not particularly accurate gains 15-20 seconds per day. Bought cheapo seiko 5 sport w/4R36A movement that is spectaculary accurate within 3 secs. a day for 122 bucks. Got them both on Amazon

How does the black face model fare in terms of visibility? Are the grey hands clearly visible on the black surface?
+1 for more FDD03003Y0

Why not provide more detail?
The gold one is $2.99 more here, the black faced one is $10.01 cheaper here, and the off-white one with blue hands is not even available on that site.
I own the off-white with blue and it's a gorgeous piece that regularly garners compliments. I swapped the black band for a brown one with simple stitching and I feel it is a better compliment to the off-white and blue.
It's funny how the display caseback displays ... almost nothing. Is that a little peak of the balance wheel? A little bit of a gear?
You'd think that they could use a more minimalistic plate on the back so that the innerds can be seen through the display glass.
Cloaca
It Is an understated case back display for sure.
Just received mine (white face, blue hands) last week. Really impressed - looks better in person than photos, no problems with fit and finish. Size has not been a problem (I have a sub-7 wrist), and I think it wears a bit smaller than the diameter and thickness would suggest. The narrow strap also works well with it. Ran an average of 9 sec fast per day for the first week. Overall, I'm quite pleased with this purchase and would recommend this watch to those looking for a reasonably priced, mechanical hand-wind watch with vintage appeal. Looks like it's back in stock at longislandwatch.com for close to the same price as this drop (all good reviews there too).
I love this watch. vintage look and has very sleek finish And good quality

Hi I ordered the black version and I would like to change it to the white if it's possible
Damn, too late for the White blue hands version.
The Orient Bambino Gen 2 can be had for cheaper and is better because it's hackable. It also has 3 versions and colors to choose from! I'd look for that versus this one.

Fair enough assessment! If you're set at getting this watch, you could get this at a couple of retailers for $10 bucks more or less (including free shipping) in the US in 2 days time!
I meant 10 bucks more or less, edited and corrected.
Hi all, we were able to secure some more units of each model in this drop and have updated the limits accordingly.
Always wanted a hand winding classic watch. Also it looks quite nice. However, i think 13mm is quite thick for no need of automatic movement. There are automatic watches that are thinner, hand wound watches should be around 10mm. I fear that 13 might be too thick, prefer my watches decent not bulky.
borartr
I'm also not thrilled with that thickness, but some reviews I read stated that it wears thinner / is borderline for dress. I'm in on this drop because I'm really drawn to the aesthetics and the novelty of hand winding.
I really like the look of this model, and Orient is a well respected "mid-tier" maker IMO. Question: with a slightly domed mineral crystal it would take a surprisingly short period of wear to scratch up the crystal (cafe owner--very hard on my watches!) How expensive and end-user possible would it be to later replace the existing crystal w/ a sapphire replacement? I know there is a robust mod community around Seiko watches, which leads to a larger pool of available parts-- where does this Orient fall in this equation? (I have basic tools, and have successfully done some very minor repairs but never a crystal replacement...)

Depending on how tough you are on your pieces, using a good polishing agent can keep them pretty good, and as others have pointed out, protectors cut to size. Orient does make awesome watches, regardless of price, but getting info and specs from them directly is tough. Finding a domed sapphire can be done, but it might get you close to 1/3 or 1/2 the price of the watch, though Esslinger has a good selection and might have something to fit.
Also lots of Orient modded watches to be found on youtube and boards, et al, though this model is not one of them typically. Manual wind watches cater to people much more specific in the knowing and wanting of something really unique, and this Orient has that in spades. Its a throwback really to a different time, and a different feel in the world imo.

Go to your local jewelry store. I have several vintage watches and I'm always scratching the crystal.
The silver/white face is shown with blue hands in all photos except for the style detail, where only the second hand is blue. Can you confirm which is the case?

I love the watch, it is a part of my regular rotation. I own a number of watches, but my means do not allow for the very high end. I cannot imagine a hand wind and hacking watch that is so well finished coming at a more reasonable price. I paid the same price as this drop. It keeps great time too. I was worried that the 40mm might seem big on my fairly small wrist, but the tapered lugs allow it to wear smaller.
Kbone
All the hands on my white face model are blue, but the blue can look black depending on how the light hits it.
This is right about the going rate of the watch anywhere online. Just do a Google search of Orient Monarch Watch.

By "right about the going rate" I meant within 10-20 bucks. It's a negligible difference and if you get free shipping at 179 vs the $7 shipping (or more) from massdrop you're within a couple bucks. It just isn't the kind of discount I'm looking for from massdrop for crowd funding bulk deals.
jrmcbeth
I agree, I generally expect more of a discount, but the other thing is I couldn't find these watches in stock anywhere around this price. They're sold out just about everywhere so maybe this is more of an availability/exclusivity advantage, not just a price advantage. I like Massdrop for reasons other than price: sometimes we get stuff pretty easily when normally it would take quite a bit of time to order, or require speaking another language, etc.
Remember, this is not an automatic watch, it's hand wound only.
efrin
I have come to prefer hand-wound to automatics that do not allow hand winding. I hate that such watches exist. It seems like Orient and Seiko are the only ones who make such watches (although at great prices).

That's why I use winders
I like the old timey look of the gold. Also cool how they use gold for the crest on the gold model and silver for the crest on the silver models.
This is an amazing price for this watch. Very hard to say no to this deal.
Lovely piece, especially for the price.
Any warranty? Provenance, mechanical condition?
