The watch I received runs fast, and it's annoyingly fast, so every week it's about +5 minutes too fast. Have to adjust time regularly. Is this "normal" for Orient? Can it be adjusted? How?

Drew.fNo, it's not the norm for Orient. I've had my Ray Raven 1st gen now for over 3 years and it ran fast as well at 5 sec/day. I learned how to regulate a watch a year ago and I got it running at 0.7 sec fast/day. I'm sure all you need is to get it regulated. It's a good watch, a great value watch. I got mine through Creationwatches for $144 back then. Mind you, the 2nd gen has a hacking and hand-wind features so it is an even better movement imho.

Drew.fI got the orange Ray II a while back (bit cheaper than here) and was able to quickly regulate it using a phone app and a headphone mic. You will NEED TO OPEN the case, that might or might not screw up the waterproofing depending on your tools and care. Took me 2 tries and it's running now at -2SPD.

Drew.fThe symptoms you've described are consistent with well known magnetic phenomena, when various magnetic fields caused by Earth or powerful electromagnetic equipment (generators, power lines etc.) affect the main and balance springs. You may need to buy a watch demagnetizer, it is not too expensive cheapest models are $10-15 on Amazon. It is simple to operate and a "MUST HAVE" for any automatic watch owner. Just make sure you buy an electric model, non-powered models are good for screwdrivers and other tools and useless for watches.

Drew.fTake it to a service center.
First, order a replacement movement from Orient, and a service center can change it over for you. The whole movement needs to be replaced.

Drew.fHave it regulated and that's all you need. That's part of owning a mechanical/automatic watch.. +5 minutes is too much and understandably annoying so take it to a trusted watch repair/shop and see if they can regulate it for you for a nominal fee. It's a good watch and you'll appreciate its accuracy once regulated.
