It's good to hear that recipients of the beautiful Orient Star Classic are pleased with their watches. However, I'm beginning to wish I had never joined in with this drop. Living in Britain, my watch slowly made its way to London Heathrow thanks to USPS. Having got there I understand that it is being held by Customs Clearance , a customs handling company. According to the USPS website, they've had the parcel for 48 hours but I have heard nothing. I emailed them through their website and have heard nothing. I now find that I could have obtained this watch for the same price from Creation Watches and would have received it a while ago. All things considered, this experience makes me think that Massdrop is not for us Brits and that saddens me.
Mine just came in and overall the watch is extremely well made (including the gift box is absolutely overkill). Even with my 6 inches chicken wrist, size of the watch looks fine. The movement is super quiet and fully decorated with basic Geneva pattern (when you think about those overpriced 2824-2 or lower end Seiko). However, I've noticed something unusual, there is a even gap about 0.5mm wide between the bezel and the casing (see attached photos). I looked that up on YouTube and apparentlly other people's seem to be the same exhibiting that gap underneath the bezel. This is kind of unusual and different to my other dress watches, as over time that area might accumulate dirt within (I know you don't dive into the mud with a dress watch, but still). Nevertheless, this watch still provides a lot more than what you paid for.

Does the movement has Geneva decorations on this version ? Thanks.
Is this the US version or Japan version?
BReal38
Judging by the model no. I believe should be the export/US version. Do you know what's the differences between the two? I'm thinking to join the drop as well.

Is this same watch? I searched this at ebay. I dont know the diferrence...

Yeah, but that one actually belonged to Elvis.

Reminds me of the Squale GMT Tropic Ceramica I saw from a seller on eBay who wanted $3000 because it was a "Limited Edition" and "Not available in USA". So I went to Gnomon (for whom it's made exclusively) and its listed at 790 I think. Kinda ridiculous that eBay doesn't regulate scammy sellers like that.
Note to MD: Bought the hamster-in-a wheel "automatic movement" last drop; really love'n it! Only down side is that you have to water it once a day and sometimes it makes squeaky noises (that and the pile of little brown pellets I find on the nightstand each morning)--but it does keep excellent time. Thanks for the recommendation!

If it didn't have that date window it would be a great watch. But Orient struggles with date windows, esp. with the Bambino (garbage watch - don't buy it). They don't even frame it half the time, so it comes across looking like a goofy, accidental hole in the dial. I hate date windows in general, and this one is distracting. I saw this during Black Friday for $179 brand new from LIW so if they rerun the same sale this year, it might be wise to hold out.
First selling point mentioned in the copy: "For one, its polished indices and two-toned hands twinkle when the watch is held at different angles." Yup, twinkling hands are right up there at the top of my list when looking for a dress watch: "Say Bob, show Martha how your hands twinkle." Then there's this informative bit of watch-expert repartee: "Another unique feature is the power reserve indicator spanning from 11 to 1 o’clock...The indicator provides a reading of the remaining battery life on the 40N52 automatic movement." Always damn handy to know how much battery life you have left in your automatic watch! Note to MD: assign these phone toting, never owned a watch, generation Snap Chat children to the Board Games & Mechanical Keyboard Community and hire someone who knows less about twinkle and more about frig'n watches!

Damn that was funny. Touché!

Sadder than it is funny!
No matter how you shake it this is a really good deal for this Orient Star Classic. I bought mine used several years ago and paid about $225. I didn't even get the color choice I really wanted. Back then these were hard to come by at a decent price. Now I'm thinking about getting the stainless steel white dial with silver hands (version I originally wanted) and then selling my older one.

And ya best shake it, it's an Auto after all!
Mineral crystal acrylic wouldve been better
Strejle
Disagree. Acrylic scratches too easily. I've had Orients with domed mineral crystals and they stayed scratch-free.
BruceRe
Y but is easy to polish acrylic
I am searching for white dial w blue hands
Received mine today. Beautiful watch. And the dial is more of a matte cream rather than bright white. The pictures on Massdrop don't do the dial justice.

I accidently ordered two SAF02004W0 (black leather white dial face) when I meant to get one SAF02004W0 and one SAF02003W0 (blue hands) . Did anyone want to swap their SAF02003W0 for a SAF02004W0 ? I will pay the $20 price difference as well. Kinda bummed I accidentally ordered two of the same model :/

I could have bought this and the Ray ii on MD for cheaper. I guess that's the cost of being out-of-control-multiple-hobby-dude >:/

Welllll... deal went south... filed paypal claim. I had bought two 20mm straps for the OSC too. Certainly I need a watch for those. Speedy Broad Arrow is on the way :) guess I'm still afflicted with the collecting sickness.
I am tempted on this one but the lack of warranty info and the fact that Orient changed the dial on the second Gen Bambino to an off white pearlish dial from a bright white on the original version and still claims its the same makes me second guess them. I had to fight with a distributor and eventually got the watch for free but i think this version is the same, a greenish/pearl white that isnt as nice. Most likely pass..

The lack of warranty is a deal-breaker for me...
I'd jump in a second because this watch really speaks to me, but the lack of warranty is super shady. I imagine that the 30-day warranty by Massdrop still applies if the item arrives damaged or what not?
I want this but I don't, should I just impulse it guys?

Why the "... but I don't..."?
Man.... i hv been looking at this drop for days. I have the silver case, cream dial & gold markers piece and like some of the folks here, I absolutely love it.
The glass might not be sapphire but since it is a dress watch & not quite my daily beater, I was ok with it.
Got mine for more whilst in Tokyo, so it's a pretty good deal. Mulling the black bracelet version but seriously, I like the leather & cream/gold version better.....
Prob pass but this is a darn nice piece of watch.
I am too lazy to read this entire thread to see if this was mentioned but I would like to reiterate my endorsement of the Orient Star Classic. The bracelet clasp is machined which is nice at this price point. It is not quite the security of one on the Citizen Nighthawk but it feels more secure than the clasp on the Seiko SARB033.
MrJamesDuffy
I received mine a day ago. Have to disagree lightly about the bracelet clasp. I see the tell-tale signs of die-stamping and folding on most of the clasp. Logo on clasp is surely stamped rather than engraved. Some minor parts machined from solid billet. It's certainly a good bracelet, but really it is on-par with other $300-$400 watches.
BF_Hammer
Fair enough. The hinge mechanism is machined but the "claspy" part of the clasp is indeed stamped. I still stand by my testimony on how secure and solid it feels and darn good for sub-$300 USD. Only the Citizen Nighthawk clasp beats it in the price range.
Just to get some more info out there, I have the model with silver case and gold markers. The dial is not white, it is cream. I really like mine as it does turn white under different lighting conditions and gets really cream coloured in others. Beautiful watch!
But if you are one of those folks who can stand anything off white, then caveat emptor!

That looks beautiful, just wondering what size is your wrist.
Justwatch
Small. Between 6 to 6.5 inch, but flat side is 50mm
I know they don't make a women's version or small version of this watch. But in general would love to see women's watches or unisex minimalist watches like this in smaller sizes. I have tiny wrists and prefer to wear quality dress watches that are not super feminine but also isn't an obvious man's watch so I can stilI maintain an overall feminine look. I love this one with the black leather strap.
I received a reply from Masdsdrop CS regarding my warranty inquiry. Here it is, "Massdrop has a 30 day warranty for products. If a vendor also has a warranty that will be stated at the bottom of the drop page under "Specs"."
lionseeker
Masdsdrop? Sorry folks. My bad. Bad migraine day.
Anybody else notice the one photo so heavily photoshopped that the 10 marker disappeared?
I'm willing to leave a bit of glare in my pics if it means all the markers are still visible. LOL
WARRANTY ? ? ? (We're all still waiting ....)

I just started this "watch habit" thing. It's my third watch and I LOVE it. I like the kinda dated look and the raised dome. Classy looking to me, but casual at the same time! The downfall everyone says is the 21mm band. I was able to find a "custom" made leather strap made to my order (21/18) for $43. Out of the country, it took 15 days to get it - two days after Massdrop delivered my watch. Get this ... my other (more expensive watches are of +12 & +15 spd - the Bambino is off +1 spd.
That should read "Orient USUALLY make very durable watches". However a batch of Orient Trooper watches had an issue with the date/time adjustment. Having said that, Massdrop did a brilliant job on the eventusl refund and I then bought an Orient Ranger which is fine.
More information about the shipping, is it shipping to the UK.
From where does this ship from?
Ksingh007
Anyone please tell me from where does this watch ship from?
Am hesitant because:
1. No information on warranty
2. No sapphire crystal. I've got 4 Orients, and the doomed mineral crystal on my Bambino v4 scratched so easily as compared to my other 3 with sapphire. And it's been hard to find a doomed sapphire crystal for orient this far, from official dealers or others alike.
Joysimath
True, Orient is diluting the reputation of Orient Star by putting mineral crystal on the watch. End up you are getting an Orient Star with hacking mechanism and slightly better bracelet comparing to normal Orient... Maybe this is what we are paying for all these features. As a prospect customer, I choose to keep this complaint goes on :)
What is the warranty on this item?
Can someone tell me how the "SAF" is different from the "SEL" line?
To be specific, how does the SAF02004WO differ (if at all) from the SEL05004WO?

Here is a (another) great video about the watch. I keep hearing and seeing it's a bargain and looks much better in hand - or, should I say on wrist - then any pictures or video can reveal.

I have to agree. The way it bends and distorts light, and very comfortable to wear, even on the bracelet. It's definitely worth $279! My wife paid $380 and I was happy with it. ☺
I'll add that the dial is also domed with curved indexes. It's absolutely gorgeous. That's a good price.
