SiphuncleNot sure where you're going with your comment. A lot of things are "easy" to make if you have the time, skill, and resources. I could probably make my own clothes, bake my own bread, and change my own oil. But, at a certain point, it's more economical when it comes to time vs money to pay someone else to do it. It has the added benefit of, you know, giving people jobs.
YabosMcGeei'm not going anywhere with it. i just wanted to highlight that you can make a belt like this (probably better actually) for under £20 in an hour in front of the tv at night, and it's a fun project. They're considerably easier than all of your linked examples.
apologies for rustling feathers
SiphuncleAgain, I probably could, but is it really worth it? Not only do I need to source the leather, hardware and tools, but I have to spend time learning how to do it. Unless you just happen to have the resources and tools laying around, you're already past your £20 budget. And, unless you just happen to be an autodidact, you're going to spend considerably longer than an hour on that project. Not everyone is skilled in everything they try, so I don't know that it will be "fun" for them. Probably more "frustrating", "messy", and "a waste of time".
YabosMcGeeSeems like DIY is just not for you, and that's fine.
For everyone else that likes a fun, simple and easy project, and that need a new belt - maybe think about trying to make a belt!!
SiphuncleI'd agree edges and finishing are amateur on this and anyone could do it in a few min tops, I make a lot of sheaths, belts etc and so on with carving that takes tools and skills but plain with low finishing is easy. I taught my 6yo and he made a belt with finishing matching or exceeding this so it really is that easy. This is very overpriced since you can get precut strap for similar cost, I charge this for better finishing and hardware. Precut is basically just same as this minus you need ot screw the chicago screws in yourself. Spend a bit more time and you'll get proper smooth burnished edges http://s38.photobucket.com/user/tsongkhapa1/media/IMG_4330_zpstkivgh3i.jpg.html?sort=3&o=11
YabosMcGeeYa those things are call a hobby. Full grain leather belt blanks are less than $20, if you don't like to DIY is another story. They are selling these belts at $70 if it wasnt for massdrop
