Was this drop closed because of miscommunication or because it hit the 1000 cap? Just wondering because I'm interested in ordering a Tan 36'' belt.

DanielleI dont see anywhere on the product page where it indicates a maximum of 1000 orders. All I saw was a remaining days count, so I figured there was no rush to order. Very bad first experience with your website.

shoewizzOnce 1000 belts sold, Orion needed to shut it down from their end. You were a victim of this deal's awesomeness and the public's reaction to it, but it's not Massdrop's fault that Orion can't make an infinite amount of quality leather belts to be delivered in a reasonable window of time.
More to the point, the very nature of this site allows you to confirm for a low price contingent on the sale being popular enough to drop to that price -- it's essentially a zero-risk proposition for you, the buyer, if you find that price palatable. The fact that you didn't pull the trigger on an obviously excellent deal before literally a thousand other people did is not something about which a reasonable person would complain.
In short: your "very bad first experience" is entirely your own doing, and your complaint is unreasonable, self-centered, and whiny. Massdrop's customer service seems like a pretty professional bunch and thus they likely won't say as much, but that's the truth.
If you buy a pair of jeans and pee your pants the first time you wear them, that'll be a bad first experience with those jeans, but it sure isn't the fault of the jeans.

shoewizzQuit being such a baby for missing out shoewizz. How would you feel if you placed an order with Massdrop and it took them over 2 months to fill it because the supplier was overwhelmed by the demand? You may not like not getting in on this drop which is your own fault, but you'd like it even less if you payed and had to wait forever to receive it (that would be MD's fault), you'd be crying about that even louder.
Here's a hint, when an item you want is posted and it's receiving an insane number of buys like this belt was, don't wait, get in on it before it's closed. Anyways they've already said they'll offer this again in the future, keep an eye out and don't sleep on it next time.

shoewizzThe more diplomatic response:
Sorry that you didn't get into the drop. Every product that we run has an implicit 'limit', even if one isn't absolutely stated. However, when speaking with Orion, we told them about the max drop price being at 100 units, and asked about what the absolute limit should be, and the answer was effectively "the limit is more than you will sell."
Well.. you guys sure showed them! Once we passed 500 sales in 3.5 hours, we called them again, and they said that we had better limit it to 1000 orders. We posted that in the comments and it was sold out by 4pm. Sorry for the poor planning and communications, but it was definitely out of the norm for us here at Massdrop.
This buy was, by far, the drop that has most "exceeded expectations" ever. It's the first drop that hit a limit (that didn't exist) in the same day it was launched. Danielle's super excited at the response from you guys, and the more you guys participate in the drops, the easier it is for her to convince these great companies to work with the group (OSB, Orion, Red Wing/Irish Setter for example).
For posterity, here's a picture taken from our internal metrics page that that shows you guys blowing up the drop :P
(The red lines signify the price-drop quantities, and usually the x-axis is measured in days, not hours!)
