Just bought this jacket for 220 from back country. Absolutely worth it. it is the ultimate shell.
NOTE IT IS NOT WARM IN ANY WAY. Repeat after me, it is not warm in any way, it stops wind, and it stops rain.
It breathes like no other jacket, and wearing it on your bare skin doesnt feel plasticy and sticky.
Worth every penny. I bought and returned 5-6 jackets before this.
CalysmicAny experience with the Helium HD? It's a touch lighter (and more fragile, I assume?) than the Interstellar, but the HD has pit zips, which are a huge plus in my book.
DangoAbsolutely. This would be the jacket for that for sure. It breathes very well and is very comfortable. And 100% waterproof. (Sat in the shower for 15 minutes with it on)
I would say this, plus a light t shirt would work really great in hot summer rains.
DangoHot weather is the most difficult environment for this kind of textile.
If you are stationary this jacket will certainly prevent water ingress - but it won't stop you from sweating just as much as you would be standing around in 30 degree humid weather if it wasn't raining, however.
if you plan to walk or do any aerobic activity in 30 degree rain with this jacket on - expect to get very hot and wet from sweat.
Most people who exercise in hot wet weather go without a waterproof membrane or wear one with significant mechanical venting (think pit zips, waterproof hat rather than a hood, or a poncho).
DangoI have to agree with wily-quixote, NO membrane backed fabric is going to work well in 30 degree weather (where I live there are frequent summer downpours from 30-35C). I might use one walking to the corner store, and even then I'd prefer a jacket with massive pit zips or an umbrella. This jacket doesn't have pit zips.
If I am doing something high energy (typically cycling) I just prefer to get wet, and carry a set of dry clothes for afterwards.
