Product Description
Sharing many of the same features as the company’s acclaimed Ascendant Hoody, the Outdoor Research Nimbus Hoody has better breathability for long ascents and full days on the slopes. Weighing a mere 13 ounces, the Nimbus is made of Pertex Microlight fabric and stuffed with Polartec Alpha insulation Read More
Yes - Polartec Alpha Direct is exposed. They say it's one less barrier to breathability. I noticed some shedding at first, but it seems to have stabilized.
Also, OR was thoughtful enough to put some of the Microlight on the inside of the shoulder/upper arm area of the Ascendant so the sleeves slip on more easily. I'm not certain, but I'm guessing they continued that design with this jacket.

SawatchFactoryThanks Dave.
I might give this one a miss, I'd prefer an inner lining. It looks like this jacket is active wear warmth not for stationary insulation .
This jacket looks like a very warm version of a marmot driclime windshirt - no bad thing.
This drop is for the Nimbus Hoody which has the same movement-mirroring stretch and protective insulation as the rest of the Ascendant collection – but packed with even stronger weather-shedding functionality. @Hikinfool@engearment_dave@clew@Mebaru
Superficially, the hand pockets on the 1st gen are curved; straight on the 2nd gen. Also, if you have the two in your hands at the same time, the 1st gen will feel and sound more crunchy/plasticky and the 2nd gen will feel more supple. (...which is not to say the 1st gen is plasticky. Just relative to the 2nd gen.)
Can you be more specific? They both have identical specs. What is different about the face fabric.

Thank you fot great review! I believe this, because had "similar" freezing issue with Rab Xenon hooded jacket https://www.massdrop.com/buy/38015 used as midlayer. I` freeze at +5 Celsius even keep moving. Seems RAB Primaloft don`t work versus Mammut The Rime Tour IN Jacket Men with its Ajungilak® OTI™ insulation (https://us.mammut.com/p/1010-21890-00070/rime-tour-in-jacket-men/ ) in which I unplanned SLEPT outside on bench at +0 Celsius like a child . Before I thought Mammut is overpriced, but now will try to figure out more about their insulation.
