MebaruYes, this jacket has more weather protection int he face fabric than the regular Ascendant. The Pertex® Microlight sheds water and shields from wind, while Polartec® Alpha Direct insulation keeps you warm and dry throughout your entire adventure.

PaigeD@PaigeD I'm relatively familiar with the OR lineup and intimately familiar with the Ascendant line - we tested the 1st gen and have the 2nd-gen in house right now. The Ascendant is a kickass jacket. The photos are definitely the 1st-gen Ascendant. Colorways are Ascendant. The stats are for the Ascendant as well - 13oz, 20d Microlight. The 1st-gen Ascendant was more weatherproof than the 2nd-gen (and less breathable).
As far as I know, there is no OR Nimbus hoody. OR confirmed it by email just now.

SawatchFactoryThe Nimbus hoody is a Massdrop exclusive item, and is a SMU style created from the original Ascendant hoody. The key differentiators are the pockets and the fabric. I just weighed the Nimbus hoody and it is actually 1oz heavier than the Ascendant - copy has been updated to reflect this.

PaigeDGiven you say this has more weather protection in the face fabric, like the Gen 1, I'm assuming it is less breathable than the gen 2 ascendant?
Engearment_Dave - how do you differentiate between the gen 1 and 2. I've heard the same and have been trying to figure out how to ID the differences so I make sure I pick up a gen 2.

MNettlebergerSuperficially, the hand pockets on the 1st gen are curved; straight on the 2nd gen. Also, if you have the two in your hands at the same time, the 1st gen will feel and sound more crunchy/plasticky and the 2nd gen will feel more supple. (...which is not to say the 1st gen is plasticky. Just relative to the 2nd gen.)

PaigeDCan you be more specific? They both have identical specs. What is different about the face fabric.
