T-RavThat is my question also. I have a Snoqualmie Sombrero, which I don't think they even make anymore, but it's a very good hat, basically it's a Seattle Sombrero but with some extra fabric to use in cold weather: you can unfold the extra fabric so it partially covers your ears.
So an excellent hat in cold wet weather -- but it'd be horrible in the summer.
If the Ghost Rain can serve as both a sun hat and a rain hat, that'd make it a potentially valuable item to have. But if it's hot and sweaty as a sun hat, and leaky and wet as a rain hat, then yuck.
Also I've gradually moved to hats with larger and larger brims, both for better sun protection and especially for better rain protection. This winter in Portland OR I've constantly used my Sunday Afternoons Cloudburst rain hat, it has a 3.75 inch front brim and a 6 inch rear brim. Best rain hat that I've ever had; not as warm as the Snoqualmie Sombrero but much better rain protection. But it's no sun hat.
The Ghost Rain hat looks like an interesting compromise if it can serve adequately in both roles.

Well, it's definitely not as cool as something like a woven sun hat, but I've gone backpacking with it in the 90s and have been comfortable. I don't think I'd take it to a low desert, though. But you probably wouldn't have to worry about rain as much in the low desert, either.
