Why do so many of these higher end watches have such ugly designs? They can engineer something high quality but can't make anything look nice...

Hexxatt"Nice" is a subjective thing, as your dislike of this design indicates. Disliked by you; loved by others. I personally like this watch as I am loosing my eyesight and the large hands and numbers help.

TasselhoffFunctional doesn't necessarily means fashionable. It's totally fine if other people like it. But I imagine many people who are into fashion would not consider many of these to be elegant or aesthetic in the least. Many high end watches ignore the elegance of curves, lines, and other aspects that are critically important in aesthetics. There's a science to it. I like orient designs the most out of many of these massdropped watches besides the jazzmasters and a few others. But ones like this, the Macara sea turtle, and the glycine are kind of hideous. I wouldn't take the average persons opinion about looks since am incredibly large majority of people I've met in my lifetime do not know how to dress themselves or even choose colors that go together. I'm sure this watch is stellar. Just wish they had someone who did more fashionable watches to design them. Fashion watches are usually junky, and we'll made watches are usually ugly. I just want both...

HexxattSounds like you are looking for a dress watch. Go check out their B42 model. They come up on MD from time to time. More miminslistic.
I personslly love this rugged A45 design. But evetyone likes something different which is why we all wear different watches and drive diffrent cars ...,

Capricorn36I get that there are different taste but there are a lot more better looking low end watches and a lot of higher end ones aren't. As far as design goes there are a lot of things the the human eye favors such as tapers, straight lines, symmetry, tasteful asymmetry, golden ratios, things like that. That's why so many people like material designed apps and web pages now it's almost unanimous, and people spend thousands of dollars designing the shape and lines of things from cars to watches. It just seems many of these basic principles are ignored here. I think the band is kind of cool. But I really don't like the casing bezel hands face or style of the numbers. Anyone who likes it is fine. But from the design standpoint from the watchmakers end you think they would have made it look better. I have the same problem with some high end clothing companies too. And newer cars how they're getting fatter and rounder. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check those out. I like something between dress watch and executive. Not too minimal but not too too busy with big steel links and huge bezels etc.

HexxattI actually quite like the design of this piece. The case looks a lot like a Panerai and there aint nothing wrong with that... unless you don't like Panerai of course.

DennisjewellerIt's not the brand I don't like it's just a case by case matter of design -_- and many people like and buy many unfashionable things, just because they do doesn't mean it looks any better. It's like how many people wear boot cut blue jeans with some absurd color tennis shoe, white tube socks, and some ungodly colored sports hoodie that's a different color usually neon or red, and some other hat that doesn't match? Most of the people in my city and my unit and everywhere else I've been don't know how to dress... They buy popular brands but that doesn't make them look any more fashionable. But they can like what they like of course. But then they always ask me what I'm wearing because it's not the same as their trashy look...
