Does anyone know how well this bag works for non-photography carry, i.e. EDC? Was considering this, but most reviews seem to indicate it's strictly for photography.

NostradamionI have ordered this bag on Kickstarter, but fortunately canceled it. I've bought Lowpro Tactic 450 AW and very very happy with it

NostradamionI have the 30L bag which I use mostly for non-photography carry, and I think it's excellent. It does depend a lot on what you want to carry though.

Zorikthat looks even more specific to cameras than the peak design...
maybe give some insight into why you chose the Lowpro?

Nostradamionpretty sure its swell for cameras mainly because it is water resistant, durable and those squishy dividers. but those can come out or be arranged all sorts of ways, its get awesome pickpocket locks, key lanyard, laptop pockets, adjustable hide-away straps, and expandable collapseable space. I am not sure what would make it not a great EDC, and I am fairly sure there are better camera bags...

NostradamionI have the 30L and don't do photography. It's a great commuter and travel bag. It has less organization for small stuff than I'm used to. Pens and whatnot. But honestly I didn't need to carry that much of that shit. It's really well built and designed. Makes me happy when I use it.

Rexar5Thanks for the info. This drop seems like a good price; I may take a chance and go for it. I'm currently using a Tom Bihn Synapse 25 but am finding I need a bit more room which is why the Peak Design 30L is so tempting.

NostradamionI do not have it as of yet but if it is similar to most of my past and current photography bags the infinitely customizable interior will be great for EDC, I actually use mine for Photo and EDC. That being said these are heavier than a normal EDC ruck since they offer double padded areas for protection of optical gear. I have never minded the weight. And the non discriminate look of the bag certainly is less intimidating or telling that a full tactical bag.

NostradamionI will say, it looks dumb with the flap at one of the top notches. I prefer to use the bottom one unless I absolutely need to. Which cuts off some space. The external carry straps work for a jacket though.

Rexar5Do you think the 30L is too large for a regular office backpack? For reference am 5'11.

scarybusinessmanIt's okay for me but I'm 6'4". I think it would probably be fine. But the 20L is also gonna have room for a lunch, laptop, and jacket, which is really all I end up needing. I have more space than I need. But I don't think it sticks out in a weird way or anything. I get occasional compliments on it and I don't mind the size.

SLUnatic85I have access from the top, from the both sides - no need to open bag from the back to take camera , it's possible to store d800 and 70-200 attached and still have lot of space, my lee filters have dedicated space on the side, if needed I can take 2nd camera and still have lot of space . Bag is very strong , stealth view, very comfortable and ergonomic .BUT what is very importing I know my equipment will not get damaged . I went to the local store and spent about 30 -45 mins to find the bag I want . If you have any doubts about ED - don't buy it!!! I recommend you find bag by yourself, dont trust you tube bloggers, make Your choice GL !

ZorikThank you, friend :) advice well taken. I am new to the game and don't have much equipment. I might go find something lower cost that is right for me but I will keep this and the Lowepro Tactic in mind :)
I only got confused because you responded to a comment someone had about the PD bag being too camera specific for their "every day carry" needs by recomending an even more camera specific pack. Though a stellar one.

NostradamionIt's called the everyday back pack because it's ment for every day use cases. It designed to work as a photography bag but also a just a regular back pack. If you don't plan to use this as a photography bag I wouldn't recommend it due to the price. Also if you need more space than 25L I wouldn't recommend it. 30L is the maximum capacity with it being on the top rung of the maglatch closure with the minimum being 18L. You'll probably want a different bag.

NostradamionYou might be better off with a different pack. I use the Maxpedition Falcon III personally. Though, I would expect the ED Pack would serve just fine for you depending on the contents being stuffed inside. Peak Design's kickstarter for this thing has some videos showing it could be used for other things so its worth checking out. Being made with 600D Kodra, it makes it fairly light compared to 1050d nylon or 1000D cordora. So based on materials, its really well suited for EDC. The front compartment, the one closest to your back, is meant for a laptop and a journal or two. Then, the real star is the section where the camera gear would go. Since you can fold the dividers to be half sections or remove them entirely, it makes for some interesting space management styles. Plus, there are pockets on the inside of those left and right flaps.

NostradamionI know this is two weeks old but I owned the bag and found it to be very mediocre for non-photographic carry. It's also really weird to get used to the left and right openings and the tiny pockets they have which are ideal for SD cards, batteries, etc. but not so much for things a regular commuter, student or tech person will carry.
For such an expensive bag I don't want something I have to keep altering to get a comfortable and efficient feeling of carrying stuff. I just feel like it's great for photography but the "Everyday," aspect of it may have been slightly overrated. Or maybe not? It's still beautiful but for $250? A little less. There's still nothing like it on the market aesthetically.

LeowulfInteresting. What do you carry in your bag, out of curiosity. Since I carry a lot of gadgets and stuff, since I use my laptop for school and don't really carry paper all that much, I find the bag would be perfect if I did have my current bag. I carry battery packs, camera, hard drive, cables, laptop, writing gear, paracord, etc.
Though, I presume this bag depends on your needs. If you carry a lot of papers and stuff, this bag is the worst thing for you. But if your EDC is your laptop and just cables and stuff, this bag might be the perfect thing.

NostradamionIt's a wonderful backpack. Better quality than just about anything I've ever used. Have used it for travel and for photography, it does both very well.

griponrealityRight on! Since I don't own it (already have a high quality pack), how does the folding dividers inside the main compartment work? Does it work well?

NostradamionYup! The subdividers make it easy to create different compartments for whatever you are carrying. I've had the 30L for around 3 months now and it's the best backpack I've ever owned having had Timbuk2, North Face, and Burton Backpacks.
