I just got my 1/4 zip from their kickstarter, I posted pictures and a bit of additional insight at: https://hikelighter.com/2017/07/10/peak-to-plateau-kailash-quarter-zip/

abelaAny initial thoughts about fit, comfort and itchiness factor compared to say icebreaker? I have a whole wardrobe of icebreaker and rab (meco) merino blends, so yak wool is a new one for me.

phingHey phing,
This fabric is crazy soft. No itch factor, just like the super high quality micron merino wool from IB (not that IB is 100% wool anymore, sadly). The fit is very athletic.
I have been using Yak wool from pretty much every company that I can find that is using it (which is very few at this point) and I have often stated that my use of Yak wool, when compared to Merino wool, is that the Yak wool outperforms the Merino wool. Of course, there are always variables involved in that kind of a statement. This fabric from PtP is 190 gsm. The Yak wool that Kora uses is 230 gms, and back in the good days of IB, they offered premier 100% 260 gsm merino wool. The stuff from IB, back then, was obviously a tiny bit warmer than the Kora 260, and the IB was better at wind buffering, but the 260 Kora (100% Yak wool) was lighter weight, and performed better at thermoregulation and moisture management. Only time will tell where this 190 gsm Yak/Eucalyptus fabric from PtP is going to stand up in the mix of things.
Yak wool is not really a thing in the hiking community yet. Much too expensive for the average hiker. Kind of like the truly upper quality IB garments can be. And with only two or three companies producing outdoor garments with Yak, it is not really a 'known' fabric. These days people just think "merino" and the discussion stops there. I only know of myself and maybe two other hikers that have put any real miles into using and testing Yak wool. So far, all of us are saying the same thing... worth the money!

abelaThanks for the feedback John, much appreciated. Might put in for a couple and see how they work out compared to IB. How do you find the sizing? I'm S in both IB and Rab, 37+" chest, and quite athletic, so a slim fit is good for me.

abelaIf it has the John Abela seal of approval, that's good enough for me!
