The company is gone. No customer service, no software/firmware updates, no improvements, no bug fixes, and no warranty.

JamesXnot true there are bug fixes coming, software updates and possibly firmware updates as well. Fitbit hired a portion of the software team to maintain cloud services through all this year and to do whatever is necessary to update the watches to not be cloud dependant whether thats changing the Pebble App or rolling out firmware updates.
so you are spot on on two points, company gone, no warranty but over at the Pebble subreddit www.reddit.com/r/Pebble there are pebble staff members helping people out and lots of users who have tips for solving niggling issues
as mentioned in other comments users have backed up the entire app store and are contributing to an open source app that can do notifications already and is working on adding the rest like heart rate, step count, replying to messages from the watch itself and all that.
