We really deserve a better smart watch drop than a unsupported, dead product. FitBit has already claimed they will no longer support the Pebble platform. No warranty coverage and they want $115? This is crazy and honestly MassDrop should be ashamed for trying to pull this. http://gizmodo.com/pebble-is-dead-and-its-customers-are-completely-screwe-1789775408

l0stkn0wledgeSo if everything is shut down the watch itself will stop working? I won't turn on? It won't sync with my phone? The way I see it if I get the latest firmware and it does play nice with my phone, besides warranty if it stops working, what is the issue?

MonetBig things are that you will lose are; timeline support won't work, pebble app store obviously won't function (no custom apps, no custom watch faces (for future downloads)), sms support on iOS won't work, dictation support won't work.

osesWell I use SailfishOS so I am not constrained by draconian apple and if it work as-is now I'll consider my purchase successful for all my intents and purposes. I guess I'll download some watch faces right of the bat and that will be enough. (Living without android/google and apple intrusion in one's life is so refreshing.)
Thanks for the reply mate the info was useful.

Monetsounds like there is some hacking going on that you may be interesting at https://rebble.io -- specifically it looks like they are starting to brew up a new OS based on FreeRTOS. Good luck! I really enjoy my Pebble Steel, if it wasn't for the zebra connector issue I wouldn't think of replacing it even with the shutdown, but since the zebra connector issue has been a source of constant trials for me, I'll probably look at getting a mainstream Smartwatch in the future just for the support.

l0stkn0wledgewho wants $115 ? Fitbit don't own the hardware so this is likely stock that was already sitting in possession of a particular retailer. the gizmodo article was bonkers because nothing has ceased to work on the Pebbles except warranty replacement and the Pebble software team (half of them) are over at fitbit and tasked with making the watches independent of cloud services through software and firmware updates - they are still updating and curating the app store as well so things should be normal through this year with an update at the end of the year to make the watches do their thing without relying on Pebble Servers being up and running
users have already backed up all the apps on the store and have alternative repositories and there is the GadgetBridge app which will handle notifications etc if the Pebble app itself goes in 2018 for some reason

Monetservices run through all of 2017 with former Pebble software guys now at Fitbit updating the watches to do more without needing access to the cloud (i.e. Pebbles servers) and the alternative app "GadgetBridge" is integrating support, already pairs and passes along call, email and SMS notification stuff and they are working on being able to reply from the watch etc
