Wonderful looking pen for sure. I got mine at launch for a little less than this price. Solid build quality like other M800 models. The only slightly negative thing is that the ink window is almost completely opaque. Very gorgeous to look at. The marbling effect has more depth than the Vibrant Blue variant.

jwzhanI agree. I got the fountain pen and the ballpoint on pre-order. The marbling is deep and gorgeous as jwzhan said, and I would also agree it has more depth than the Vibrant Blue (which is beautiful in its own right). This is a color that the photos definitely don't do justice. If you think it looks good in the photos, you will not be disappointed once you see it!

seahunterHow is the ink visibility? Can you see ink level if the pen is held upto light?

onionartAlso the picture posted by massdrop show piston which looks like plastic. Aren't M800 supposed to have Metal Piston section? May be you guys can confirm, since you have the pen :-)

onionartPretty sure it's metal painted to match the color scheme. I didn't take it apart but it has the same weight as the other M800s, which means it must have a metal piston assembly, since if it's plastic, it would be much lighter. It didn't even come across my mind that the piston assembly is black until u mentioned it.

jwzhanThanks guys. Yea, it make sense that they would paint it black so the silver meta will not be seen through the barrel. I can see the Piston assembly's silver thread through the barrel of Blue/Black M805. I have ordered this pen and should arrive tomorrow probably :-)

onionartThe piston housing is made of brass. That's the part that screws onto the back end of the pen, and houses the working parts. the piston head and shaft are plastic. This is a very substantial, and reliable system. Montblanc piston assemblies are pretty much the same and have been since the 70's. It is possible to snap the piston shaft by trying to force a frozen piston. I have repaired many pens that have been left to sit full of ink, for years. The ink dries around the piston head and it freezes in place. The answer to this is not to lean on the fill knob until you snap the shaft, but to soak the pen and loosen up the ink around the piston head. Of course regular pen hygene, and not storing pens with ink in them will totally prevent these issues. A Pelikan M-800, like a Montblanc 146 are built to last a lifetime of great writing, and then be passed down to your kids.

seahunterJust got a custom one of these in the mail today—it’s mildly transparent in places and has a nice shimmer to it. Exceptionally attractive, and I’m not even a fan of brown.

Thw1990Congrats on a great pen! I know what you mean about being a fan of brown, but this pen is just beautiful and has a very rich look to it. I have a lot of pens that are chrome trimmed, but this brown with the gold trim just looks amazing. Enjoy!
