Mine arrived today, 10 days to Australia is rather fast. My excited fervour was mitigated upon inking, I realised yet again I received a scratchy nib. Out comes the trusty loupe and a bit of flexing brings the tines to alignment and it's now smooth. Anyone here experience nib issues on a new pen? (btw I got a fine nib, maybe the issue is more prominent with fine and extra fine?)

chris_n26Just picked mine up from the post office as I wasn't at home when they attempted delivery. 10 days was definitely a pleasant surprise considering the average delivery time of items into Sydney. Am yet to open the package. Will report back later.

chris_n26I'm waiting for mine to dry now, so haven't had a chance to try it yet. I also have the M400 White Tortoise with a fine nib and that writes beautifully but I have only used the Edelstein ink in it (Aventurine of course). The 400 nib looks half the size and is 14K, not 18K. Pelikan will exchange a nib if you aren't happy with it - I presume that this warranty holds even if purchased overseas like this.

Thea_mAre you sure warranty exists for overseas purchase? Check this out http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/267709-chartpak-will-not-service-pelikans-purchased-outside-of-north-america/
Can someone from massdrop weigh in on this? I'm thinking massdrop is the purchaser so we would deal with massdrop and they will sort any warranty issues out with chartpack.

Thea_mI bought the Edelstein ink for the M805 Anthracite (Fine) which I picked up last week but ended up with a Pilot Iroshizuku Fuyu Syogun instead. I picked up the M805 Blue and Black (Medium) with this drop. Thinking of getting the Pilot Iroshizuku Kon Peki to go with the pen. Or I may get the an Edelstein blue.

chris_n26Thankfully, I have no need to access the warranty. The nib is gorgeous! Smooth as butter and a joy to write with on Rhodia paper with Diamine Asa Blue. I can see a bottle of Edelstein Sapphire in my future. It even performed perfectly in the Christian Lacroix notebook that I use for recording pen and ink combinations and it is seriously not great paper. If it didn't have such a pretty cover I would have turfed it ages ago. I am too chicken to play with nibs - you are very brave, Chris. In this day and age, though, it is ridiculous that manufacturer's warranties on a premium product aren't honoured world wide. I know this happens on all sorts of things, not just pens. And for the price, these nibs should write perfectly straight out of the box.

kevinkhchanI haven't tried any of the Iroshizuku inks yet, but Kon Peki looks amazing. I'm tossing up over Edelstein Sapphire and Topaz, now. I am using Montblanc Permanent Grey in my Grandfather's Mabi Todd Swan (99 year old pen and '90 year' ink) and I love it.

Thea_mThat's good to hear. Btw what size nib did you buy? In my experience (limited as it may be) find that pelikan nibs (even extra fine) put down so much ink that it can mask issues such as scratchiness and skipping. Weirdly enough when I inked mine up I had the same impression as you, wow this is one damn smooth nib. But then I ran the pen across the length of an a4 sheet very quickly and it skipped. Checked the loupe and lo and behold misalinged tines.

chris_n26I bought the medium nib. After reading your comment, I decided to do some serious writing and after a few pages of A5 I have had to force myself to stop writing or I won't get anything else done tonight! My first impressions hold true; this is a truly awesome writing pen. It missed a couple of downstrokes but I think that was more a function of the angle of the paper which was the reverse of the notepad and folded over rather than flat. My M400 has a fine nib, and I have written a few letters with it and experienced no problems even on 'not the best' paper. I haven't used it on Rhodia paper yet, but I imagine it may have a bit more toothiness than the 800, given it is a 14K and a fine. I hope your nib is behaving beautifully now. I will have to invest in a loupe.
