I am not a pen person. Could someone kindly explain why the burnt orange color is used for this and other collectible pens? I don't care for it, however there must be a history behind this color. Thanks.

dholik8503In the early days of the fountain pen, they were made with hard rubber since plastic wasn't around yet as a consumer material. These pens came in only two colors, black, and a reddish orange color, sometimes a mottled variation of both! These days a collector is willing to pay a good premium on a well preserved example as hard rubber has a tendency to discolor with sunlight. One I have appears brown/grayish isn't valued for much more than the nib itself.

MiadhawkThank you! I am constantly amazed at what I learn from discussions on Massdrop.
