The Actik Core I decided against due to the expensive, proprietary battery pack (it also wasn't available at the time). I use white Eneloops in my regular Actik, and they work perfectly. Eneloop Pros (or equivalent) will give more runtime. The Actik Core can also take AAAs. And the reverse is also true: if you buy the regular Actik now, you can buy the Core proprietary pack later (the charger is in the battery, not the headlamp).
It's also made in France...at least mine was (bought earlier this year)...and comes with a 5-year warranty.
