I have the X1, what improvement (backsteps) does this X2 offer?

HarBearThe reviews indicate that the X2 is an order of magnitude better and not simply a refinement. Honestly, I have seen no headphones at this price point that have received reviews as positive as the X2. I am happy with my Beyerdynamic DT 880s, but if I were on the market again, I wouldn't hesitate. The only possible competition is the K7xx, but I'd go with the X2 because of comments regarding the quality of the build. Go check out the "zreview" review of the X2 on Youtube.

dcofficehackIt's still a matter of preference. What one person like another hates. Just because certain people rate it highly doesn't mean it's the 'best headphone evarhhh'.

dcofficehackI have the DT880s(600) as well, and they are great, but I think that with a good amp the K7XXs are better than the DT880s, and the best phones I have. To get something better I think I would have to get the TH-X00, HD800, maybe T1(2nd Ed), or LCD2 or 3. I've always wanted some X2s, and was waiting for this drop, when suddenly the quality issues arose, and it appears from the photos that this is a batch from those same runs. Too risky to blow $200 on, imo. If I could get some pre-qc issue X2s, I would jump on them, knowing what I know now.
JayDayTo be fair, there's never been "pre-QC" issue X2s. The peeling aluminium ear cups, leaking pads, channel imbalance have all been around since day one. I don't mean to dissuade anyone, but I think you need to be aware of the X2 lottery when you buy *any* pair.

badgerbadgerbadgerI was not aware that there was always a degree of QC issues with these cans, but if there was, I guess it has only been exacerbated as of late. I have realized, buying a few used headphones, I have had no luck at all. I'm sure there are plenty of people selling used headphones that work perfectly, but all 3 times I've tried to buy an used pair of headphones(various types), they always had something wrong with them(one side louder than the other, the sound is muffled or not right(worse) when compared to a different pair of the same type on the same setup, etc). So now I am wary of buying used headphones. It seems that it's hard enough to get a good pair when you pay full price for a new pair, much less when you try to buy them used. I would like to hear what people thing about perfect qc Fidelio X2s vs DT800(600) vs K7XX(all can be had in the same price range). I currently have and love the K7XX and DT800s, and I think the K7XX beat out the DT800s, but with an amp they are both amazing in power, detail, and spaciousness compared to something like the AD900X which were my favorite ampless headphones. Though the plush pads on the 880s are very nice, and better than the pads on the K7XXs.

JayDayI don't understand why people are so hesitant to buy at this price. If it's bad, you send it back and get a replacement just like any other product out there. The price is just too good, even with the weak Canadian dollar it ends up being just about $100 cheaper to buy this than to go online and purchase locally. It was explained that there was a bad batch. It happens. There's a chance that this batch is NOT of the bad batch, but there is still a chance of there being bad ones in this batch, just like any other product on the market. So you just exchange it. Let's be happy we can get these at such a reduced rate! I know I am! :)

ShampooCAI would certainly have jumped on by now, but I am very worried(and bitter that I am so torn) on this purchase when I read reviews like this: "E. Zhangon - December 18, 2015 -Verified Purchase - 'Now I'm at the fourth pair, finally there was no excessive glue anymore, only the loose rings issue persisted. But I'm gonna keep this one since it's only cosmetic now, and also I'm not sure if it's my ear acting weird or else but this headphone doesn't sound good like the last one, it's less fun and more muffled. Hmm, I'll keep listening." response "Michael Cleghorn1 - month ago - 'Yours may not sound as good as they are supposed to. I have one made a while ago, no glue. no issues at all. Just compared a 'new' pair from Amazon.com on the sale and they sound a lot worse. So you may not even be hearing the full quality of sound either. Sorry man." Obviously this issue was not caused by MassDrop, the Pillips/Gibson finally approved the drop, probably due to all the issues people have been experiencing. That doesn't mean these are a bad batch, but they are discounted and the timing is very suspicious. MassDrop does have a good policy for defective gear, so that is a plus... but I don't have an older brilliant pair to compare them to, but everyone says they are so amazing for $200, so I would assume they should be better than the K7XX and DT880(600), so if they turn out to not be better than the K7XX or DT880(600) which are at the same price point, then should I assume there is an issue?? 'Better' certainly is relative, but everyone can tell when there is more detail, power, and soundstage when compared using the same good dac/amp system.

JayDaySee, comments like the one badger just made are a prime example of spreading misinformation and fear mongering. Is badger a Philips employee part of their personal/mobile audio division? Who has direct access to their SCM/logistics data and sales data? You can't make comments like that. It's pure speculation, and if badger DOES have direct access, then what the hell, terrible employee, that's supposed to be confidential information.

JayDayFingers crossed my friend, fingers crossed. This will be my first pair of open ended headphones of this caliber. Since most reviews say they're "fun", but not as V shaped as mainstream earphones/headphones, I was interested in using them for late night music/games/movies to keep the neighbours happy.

ShampooCAAugust 2014 - One of the earliest (and best) reviews of the X2 is by Baycode on Head-Fi. Look here and tell me if you don't see the peeling ring issue: http://www.head-fi.org/t/729413/philips-fidelio-x2-a-review-by-baycode
December 2014 - Some of the first reports of driver imbalance and leaking dye from the pads. A keyword search of the thread @ http://www.head-fi.org/t/723025/philips-fidelio-x2 will enlighten you.
I think it is therefore accurate to say these issues were present from "day one" and there is no such thing as "pre QC issues". FWIW the leaking ink issue seems to have been resolved around the same time they switched manufacturing to Glueson.

badgerbadgerbadgerYou said it's like a lottery, and good luck. That's with any product. Do you think yields are 100% off the production line? Anyhoo', I'm looking forward to receiving my headphones. Now to resist the urge to buy an amp to accompany them. -$$$$$$
ShampooCAI think it is _more so_ with the X2 than other headphones in its category (sound quality, price). It's a great headphone, don't get me wrong, but you ought to know beforehand that you're potentially going to have to make a compromise one way or another. One thing is for certain though, with this particular drop you are 100% certain to get a glued pair, which Philips _themselves_ admit may be defective.
You already seem biased towards liking them, so I think you're going to enjoy them and be able to overlook any small flaws they may have.

badgerbadgerbadgerI hope mine aren't defective, and I'm sure I'll enjoy them, should they not be defective, but besides obvious defects like sounding like $10 headphones, how would I discern the difference between 100% working ones and defective ones? Based on your comments here I can conclude you have an affinity towards making assumptions, and jumping to conclusions. "You already seem biased towards liking them..." #facepalm
ShampooCAI have no intention to sour this discussion any further. I think I have made my point and provided enough sources to prove you wrong regarding the "spreading misinformation and fear mongering" comment you made.
There's enough information around to tell if your pair is defective or not. Happy hunting.
