I have received my shipment from the last drop. I have started using the med. point, and it ran out of ink (they just send enough to get you started. Not that easy to get a replacement). I am now using the fine nib pen in a proper way. It broke. The cap will no longer stay on the pen, causing the nib to mark up everything near it. The cap is not damaged; it just will not snap back into place. I am unsatisfied with this purchase, and would not recommend it. Massdrop may want to think twice about offering this product.

jonesq63I'm sorry you're not happy with the pens. These are some of my favorites. and the only reason that every keeps me from using one is I lose it. Also, I'm in no way affiliated with Pilot or Massdrop. I just like these pens. I hope I can offer you some suggestions that might ease some of your frustrations:
Ink: You're right. The pen comes with 1 cartridge that holds about 1 ml of ink. With the medium nib, a heavy user can go through that in less than a day. Fortunately, one of the joys of fountain pens is that you can use different inks them. In addition to the cart, you should have a converter. If you can, try to get some more fountain pen ink. If this is your primary pen and you're using this for the long haul and are happy with one color, then buying a bottle of your preferred ink should actually save you money (compared to all but the really cheap ball-points). The aerometric converter doesn't have a window to see the ink level. During periods of heavy use (0.5-0.8ml/day), I make sure mine are refilled and ready to go every night.
If you like the convenience of the cartridge, you have some options: 1) Buy some more cartridges of your preferred color. These should be available at NUMEROUS online retailers and some office-supply shops. 2) Refill the cartridge you have with your preferred bottled ink. A syringe with a blunt-tipped needle is helpful for this. 3) A combo of options 1 and 2 - I know people who keep about a half-dozen hand-prepped cartridges (sealed with a drop of hot-melt glue) in a small tin (Altoid for example). They cut down on the mess by refilling a bunch at once and add their own seal that can be "popped off". New pilot cartridges have the disk sealing thing.
Concerning the faulty pen: If you post pics here or on one of the fountain pen message boards, someone might be able to offer a solution that's short of sending it back to Pilot.

jonesq63Hey @jonesq63,
I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, that's very rare to hear about this pen.
Pilot is known for the high quality production value of the Metropolitan relative to the price, but it seems pretty clear that you received a defective unit.
Our Customer Support team will send you an email so we can try to (help you) resolve this.
Thanks to @GonzoTGreat for answering this comment and offering some great advice.
