I have given out a few starter pens over the years to students or other young people that I have encountered. Most recipients of my pens have impressed me with their character or skills and I wanted to inspire them with the gift of the fountain. A few have embraced the pen and adopted the use of a fountain pen in their daily routines. Among the few is an award winning author, a writer for the movies, and another is an avid journal keeper. I wanted to give these folks a glimpse at a more gentile and almost abandoned way to communicate. While we still need to use the keyboard for most activities, a nice fountain pen and handwritten works are a pleasant departure.
I mention this here, because the Metro Animal is my gift of choice lately. A great starter pen.

oldgearheadI applaud yo u and all fountain pen lovers that enjoy passing along fountain pens to folks that express an interest.. I find it especially rewarding. I am thinking of joining for that reason.. can’t ever pass up the chance to have a few on hand to be able to share with new users. I was able to find some nibs in fine and extra fine nibs that fit the metro. they are indeed much finer and have a good deal of flex to them. They are much less rigid as the metro nibs. Naturally a fine and especially an extra fine nib can initially be “scratchy” , but with a little smoothing on micro mesh, they are great for some gentle flex writing. Really happy with them... so for those that prefer the extra fine or the possibility of flex .. Don’t count the metro out 😀

MrSharkbaitHi - WING - Ordered a dozen or more each in gold and silver tone , Fine and Extra Fines. ( It maybe "WINGS" , I am at the dr office but will double check when I get home, can send ya a photo if ya like and writing sample ) I ordered from an overseas direct website. Also why I have so many. But, it was when a Fine Metro nib was hard to come by... They also fit the Pilot 78G and Plumix.

j-e-gActually give some good flex, they are not as stiff as the Pilot nib. Because they are softer, I did give them a quick jog on some micro mesh - just a little bit and they are good to go. Some EF and F nibs USA need a little bit to give them a smoother edge..

j-e-gAwesome! Thanks
These are the Wing Sung brand from China. You can even get a gold nib for under $40!

MrSharkbait I figured WINGS and Wing Sung were likely related. Obviously they are a pecial design on the side of the nib to slide on to the feed. That feed design is kind of unique to some of the Pilot pens. Not a standard nib, I should say. That’s why I wanted to add a photo showing the side of the nib. Hope it helps. Where were you able to find a gold nib for < $ 40 ? Is it gold or gold tone ???

MrSharkbaitHave you checked or read an reviews online Or that brand and model... Perhaps Check FPN or google for reviews of the pen. Would indeed be a good find if it were a fully gold nib, versus plated, gold tipped or gold tone. All very different in quality, price and performance. It’s late for me this evening, but I am interested to see what Hero offers in that price range tomorrow. Perhaps you start a new topic/discussion in the “Talk” section in the writing community ? Regardless, I thought you were asking about nibs specific to the Metro nib/feed design. ( and a few other Pilot models ) I am not aware of any 14 or 18 K gold nibs for the Metro. Not sure enough folks would want to put an expensive nib on an inexpensive pen. But, looks like you’re shopping for a new pen and brand all together. 😀

j-e-gHaha, actually I am all over the place! I have placed an injunction from opening my wallet to any fountain pen purchase at least for 6 months. I did fine some posts on FPN, and Vanness actually carries it but at a much higher price. I actually ordered some #6 Fude nibs for $3 from AliExpress. Let's see how that goes. As for these Pilot compatible nibs, if I were to go for them I would probably get a Chinese pen that fits 78g like the Wing Sung /Lucky/Yong Sheng 659.

MrSharkbaitGood Morning - and may I say, thank goodness for coffee ☕️ I saw the 659 a while back and thought it was the long lost twin of the 78G... At least in photos. I have not seen or used the actual pen. Zooming in on the transparent pen, it does look like the nib is the same design/shape. Lift that injunction... in the least, suspend it when absolutely necessary 😂😂

VYagI ordered them from Ali express because I wanted to purchase a dozen or so of each size ... But, there is a seller from China on eBay that sells them. Shipping from China can take From weeks or months.. Ali express took quite a long time, I had even forgotten I ordered them by the time they arrived. Sometimes you get lucky and get an item in fair time. If you can’t find them let me know, I can part with a few.

VYagThis seller on eBay has the nibs that will fit the Pilot Metropolitan - they will also fit the Pilot 78gand the Plumex. They are the nibs that fit some Wing Sung brand pens, most notably the Wing Sung 698. They have the nibs in gold tone and silver tone. He has listings for Extra FINE, Fine and Medium widths. They also have listings for a set of 4 nibs - 2 gold and 2 silver toned nib, 1 medium, 1 Fine. I believe they have EF nibs as well. ( FYI - I am not affiliated with this seller. Just did a search today because someone inquired )
