Would the 303 run Kef R500s?

CrippledI previously had the SC-91 paired with KEF R700s. Will the 303 power a pair of R500s? Technically, yes. However, based on my listening I think you wouldn’t be even close to extracting the best possible sounds. Frankly, because of the impendence dips (3.2 ohms) and average at best sensitivity of 88dB, MOST receivers aren’t truly going to deliver the necessary current and power to get the best sound from your KEFs.
Couple of observations from my combination:
1. I found the D3 amp and the sparkly top end of the KEFs to be too bright for my taste, especially at higher volume levels. Although that’s just my opinion, one mans bright sound is another man‘s detailed sound. 2. Bass was satisfactory with the Pioneer receiver/ KEF combo. However, when using an external NAD C275 BBE to power the fronts fed using the receiver as a preamp the bass gained some additional detail and just seemed to really improve the sound greatly - the highs were less strident and the bass just was fuller and enveloping. I’m not sure, but I’m guessing the increased wattage and especially the high current capabilities of the NAD were just a better match to driving the slightly hungry KEFs. 3. I also tried a friends McIntosh 7106 6 channel amp bridged to provide 3 channels @ 320 watts for the L, C, & R speakers again using the Pioneer as a Pre/Pro and thought that produced the best results in HT and 2 channel stereo. The imaging and 3D qualities frequently had me wondering if sometimes I had left the surround decoder on! Bass was very similar to the NAD but in the treble the Mac really made the speakers shine. So if I were you maybe look at the Pioneer if you think it’s the component you want, perhaps know that you may not be as blown away as you thought you might be. At which point start saving for and auditioning power amplifiers.

PghArchI've been eyeing the A2060 from Yamaha as well is there a W per channel you found that worked best for the Kefs?
CrippledGenerally speaking most receiver manufacturers aren't going to post their full-bandwidth rated, all channels driven numbers. This is what actually matters when pushing a surround/atmos system. I've not encountered a receiver that could compete with an outboard amplifier. A receiver rated 100 watts by 2 channels at full-bandwidth can often deliver only 20 to 30 watts per channel with all channels driven (and that's based on typical 5/7 channels driven). You've invested in a good set of speakers, I would recommend supplying them with some decent power. This doesn't mean you have to buy a multi channel amp but a cheaper 2-channel amp from Outlaw/Emotiva/etc. will do wonders for your front L/R. I run the front 3 channels off my amps and the surrounds off of my Denon 2808. I was looking at using the 503 so I could finally add Atmos to my system but for $700 I think I would be better off getting a refurb'd Marantz. I don't know if MCACC has gotten better but I vastly preferred Audessy's upmarket packages in the past.

ElectronicVicesSo would something like a Crown XLi 800 with a Yamaha RX-A1080 do the trick? I've been eyeballing Yamaha for awhile but they never go on sale and I know nothing about Amps. My dad was the sound guy he passed and i was looking to take up the hobby.
CrippledThat should be a good combo, the Yamaha has the necessary pre-amp outputs to add stereo or multi-channel amps. I will say that a lot of pro amps like Crown include a fan instead of heatsinks for cooling. This may or may not be noticeable in your listening environment. I use three different emotiva amps in my home theater/stereo configuration. The A300 is a pretty solid choice from them. I am looking to pickup an on-sale or used Marantz as I still have some players that need a 5.1 channel analog input (something which is quite rare these days)
