From what I found out, up until this Receiver all atmos enabeld units had to be 7.1 which when you set it up as an atmos set up with either 2 ceilin mounted atmos speakers or 2 angled front atmos speakers 🔊 it became 5.1.2 . Therfor a Receiver that is atmos enabled would be referred to as 5.1.2 when set up as an atmos speaker arrangement. In reality you take 2 Standard surround speakers away from the normal 7.1 arrangement and either move them to the ceiling or replace them with the angled front atmos speakers leaving you with what’s called 5.1.2 or 5 Standard arrangement surroun sound speaker, 1 subwoofer and 2 Atmos speakres. Pioneer is the first company to get Dolby to approve a standard 5.1 receiver as atmos compatable. So when in the atmos configuration it will be referred to as 3.1.2.
