jackhumbertHi-jacking the parent comment with hopes that you'll see this Jack. From what I understand the Preonic is dropping again shortly after this. Is there any chance we can get a case similar to the Planck? I'm not too big of a fan of the rounded metal and wooden sides.
donatjthe good thing is that the circuit is assembled you just need to solder the keys which is simple and only intimidating in the beginning, it's fits nicely with having built your own PC.
EvadrI believe he said on Reddit that preonic will start shortly after this ends, so no overlap. MD typically doesn't overlap any of their "big ticket" items like custom keycaps or boards.
ecbutlerNot sure how your school year works, but these ship in late June. I know many schools wont be in session at that time unless you are specifically doing a summer semester. That may be something to consider. These type of kits make it really easy to assemble and should be an under two hour project. If you want a preassembled one, you can try mech market, or similar after market site.
BestUndecidedThanks, I'll look I to mech market. Not sure if I'll be doing research this summer or not, but I do have a second child coming in a month, so I don't expect my schedule to free up haha.
donatjLOL what do you mean "for $110"? 99% of custom boards that range from anywhere between $200 and $1000 are sold as kits, just as this is. I love it when pre-assembly is offered too, I don't know how to and have too little time to learn how to solder my own stuff but the price has absolutely no place in this argument.
EvadrI could be wrong, and I'm not sure if Jack even knows exactly when things will drop as MD seems to make those calls.
Based upon asking around and some quick reading it looks like subatomic and whitefox are both going to drop in April which means those are likely the next 3 boards to drop in some order. MD could also be changing things up as it seems like they've been expanding lately.
ecbutleryour doing grad school ? that's great what are you doing ?
if you still feel completed to get one you can take it to your local store; it doesn't take long to do but just grad school is a full time job so it's understandable.
and they will probably do another one eventually; so your not losing anything ( or just buy a used one which will have it assembled at a cheap price while the mass drop is active so you can get it even cheaper, or don't get it) hopefully this is helpful
