SeaMunchieIf you're looking to get into mechanical keyboard building specifically then yeah. This will also be my first build. Only thing I'm worried about is the programming step.
Yes it works on Mac.

SeaMunchieAs far as working with a Mac, all USB keyboards will work. But not all will provide NKRO for gaming even though NKRO is a feature of a specific keyboard. In my experience, Deck and kiibohd firmware keyboards (WhiteFox, Infinity ErgoDox) - YES; Ducky - NO. I do not know if the QMK firmware used in the Planck does NKRO the Mac way. Jack? A keyboard where you just have to solder switches and LEDs is about the easiest soldering project ever. Avoid cheap irons.

MagicSmokeI would only be using this for typing and media controls on my Mac. Would I be able to map out my Mac controls through shortcuts? Sorry for the questions, just doing my research before I commit. and any recommendations for soldering irons?

SeaMunchie"any recommendations for soldering irons?" Hakko FX-888D. It's over $100! To get through a couple soldering projects, you could go to eBay and search for "936 station". You will find a lot of clones of the long-discontinued Hakko 936. They are not usually great quality stations as are genuine Hakko. A lot of google searching may help in nailing down what may be OK in the sub $50 range. Aoyue brand seems to be fine at this price.
