there is going to be a preonic drop soon, and a subatomic drop as well. The subatomic is a board that hasn't been released yet. If you want a planck though, you are out of luck unless you buy all the parts separately.
I like the size of the Planck, looks to be the ideal 40% keyboard for me. How big will the Subatomic be in comparison to Planck and Pretonic? Is it something inbetween these boards, smaller than Planck or larger than Pretonic?
I know Jack was hoping to have the Planck drop again after the current round ships. I don't know if that's still the case, or even if the current round is still on schedule.
Thanks! Thought that subatomic implied that it would be smaller than Planck :P No, I'll probably wait for the next Planck drop (I really like it mostly due to not having to move the hands from the homerow at all + it's so tiny)!
subatomic implies that it is smaller than atomic. I believe atomic was 5x16, and preonic is 5x12. subatomic will be 5x14.
Also, if you want a planck, just go and buy one from olkb.com. All the parts that were included in the kit is available on Jack's site and the price isn't really much different than what it went for here. It certainly beats waiting a year for this to drop again.
Would you happen to know how much the price was here for the whole set? I am not in a hurry to get it and can probably wait a few more months (in case there is a drop again soon), but if the price difference was minimal I'll buy it from olkb.com
$110 + shipping. I paid an extra $40 for zealio switches, which in hindsight was not a very good deal. Would have been better to just buy from zeal himself during one of his GBs.
Correct, I think it also included the XDA keycaps. The zealios were another $40 so I paid ~$150 + shipping. Can't remember right now but the $110 might have included gateron switches but I don't remember, they could have been extra too.
Ah ok! The set plate + case + PCB costs $105 + shipping on OLBK.com, would be nice if you got switches + keycaps for another $5! I'll probably wait until after this drop has finished and been delivered to everyone, and hopefully there will be some more info about the next one!
I know it's irrelevant at this point, but I believe that the Planck is named after the Planck Length (which in turn was named after physicist Max Planck), which is the smallest unit of measurement in theoretical physics, due to the scale beneath a Planck length being so small quantum effects become dominant, and render everything too 'fuzzy' to accurately define.
