This is a really interesting design, but I don't totally understand the appeal. It looks nice and compact, but isn't it harder to use/not as ergonomic as a staggered keyboard layout? What is it that makes this worth it to people who use them?

JschillrI firmly believe that a non-staggered layout is more ergonomic. I always had trouble with the z-row on standard staggered keyboards. Before even learning of olkb, I always loved the layout of a number pad with all of the keys in straight columns. Once I got used to typing on my first planck, I couldn't go back, not that I can't make do with a regular keyboard, I just really prefer my plancks. As far as what makes it worth it to use, I'd have to say QMK. Using the regular qwerty layer and two additional layers (one for numbers, one for symbols) I can reach anything I'd need to type without moving any finger more than 2 keys, and most within 1.
