There has been a slight delay at the mill for the purple and black aluminum bottoms for the Planck Mechanical Keyboard Kit. The stripping and anodize process have taken a bit longer than anticipated due to large nature of this order and the multiple production steps needed. However, we are expecting to be able to fulfill the orders for the purple and black aluminum bottoms by mid July. We will continue to work closely with our vendor in order to obtain the very best delivery schedule possible and update the group as soon as we have updated information.
For the member’s who have ordered the black or purple bottoms and would prefer to cancel your order, please contact Community Support using the “Contact Support” button in your transactions page (http://massdrop.com/transactions).
All other orders will not be affected by this delay and is still on track to meet the expected shipping date.
Expect another update from us on 6/16 or sooner if something comes up.
If you have any questions, please visit our Help Center (http://massdrop.com/helpcenter).

PeterKCan we just change to a different aluminum bottom color? Mid July is literally adding another month onto this drop, that's insane to think that this issue has just come up now... The boards and the aluminum bottoms are completely separate in the manufacturing process. Why was this just identified now? Seems like when the order originally came in they would start working on both the bottoms and the PCB boards. Not in a linear fashion like completing the PCB's then completing the anodized bottoms.

djowinzAgreed, considering we are already 2 months into the drop I was surprised by this announcement just 15 days before the scheduled delivery date.
I would also gladly switch from a black aluminum bottom to something else in order to receive everything on time.
Edit: Just to be clear, I understand this is a very small operation and everything is made to order. I just think many users would probably prefer to switch to a plain aluminum bottom or similar over waiting. Waiting is hard!

djowinzAs the different parts of the keyboard itself are themselves manufactured seperately the pcbs normally would have taken the longest time, hence whey the previus update stated PCB's. The reason for the delay is already explained as something that has occured unexpectedly and is probably due it seems to Jack himself not being happy with the finish that was achevied and he does not want to be offering us as massdrop purchasers a substandard product hence why there will be a slight delay. The reason why you probably can't change the colour is because the orders have already been placed there might not be any left for you to change the base colour. If you are that bothered about the delay the option to get a refund has been made perfectly clear.

AnakeyThe definition of slight is `small in degree` another month is no means small in degree. Since the entire manufacturing process took two months (8 days) for a total of 69 days of manufacturing time (I'm being generous by also adding the time it took for Massdrop to complete the contract between said vendor). Adding another 23 days (assuming July 15th) is the date, literally is 1/3rd the entire time it took them to manufacture every piece. Which leads me to believe their process of manufacturing is poor and ill advised. You don't make one piece and then transition to making another after you complete the first. That's just not how you mass manufacture a product. This isn't about money, this is about expecting a product on a given estimate and being told 15 days before that there's a delay. I could really care less if there was a delay, if I had found out about the delay at the tail end of may. When both products should have been in equal or staggered stages of manufacturing.

djowinzThe different pieces of the product are being manufactured at the same time at different factories, but the componets for the Planck are not the only thing been manufactured at the same factory therefore production for the planck would have had to have been booked in advance, hence the original ship date once all of these different expected due dates were received from the different suppliers which is why it will take a few weeks extra because there would need to wait for another gap in the production line to do the black/purple bottoms hence why the extra due time. If you ask me i think it is remarkable that we are getting the kits as quickly as we are able to seeing as the parts are all manufactured seperately.

djowinzAlso, you have to remember the Planck is made by one guy, and while this delay would have been unacceptable if it was made by a huge company like Corsair, these things can happen when they're produced at this scale.

PeterKAww that's a bummer but understandable. Does this mean I have a better chance at getting my infinity ergodox before I get my planck? Just curious as I am trying to plan my builds out.

djowinzMate, it's a group buy, if you didn't expect a delay then welcome to the real world of GBs. A month extra is not a significant delay at all in absolute terms, relative comparisons like you did are just not relevant. We don't have enough insight into what's left to produce, it's just what it is. You've been offered to cancel your order which is quite generous and unusual.
With several different manufacturers providing the different parts of Planck, one of them was bound to screw up. And the communication between them and massdrop is limited, hence the manufacturer of the milled bottoms probably tried their best to catch up and only when it was evident they couldn't fulfill the orders in time (in a demanded quality) they informed massdrop..

PeterKDon't really care as long as the purple is up to the standard, I'm rather glad they did not ship inferior products. But admitted it, and is taking care of it.
They could have done a half assed job to finish on time, I'm glad they are doing a proper job. This is a second run custom product, I don't get the hate that some here give.

PeterKThat is unfortunate but hopefully it won't be that big of a delay. Just got to stay excited for a little longer I guess.
