May I ask what so special about the 'music nib'? Thanks in advanc for any help in understanding the magic of the music nib...:) I do have some excellent italic nibbed fountain pens - is this very different? Looks like a broad oblique type effect. Thanks.

MassDropFanUsually a music nib comes with 3-tines to provide greater line variation between horizontal and vertical lines. Makes it easier to pen down music notes, i have been told.
I used the Platinum music nibs. They write like a dream, soft, springy and smooth.
Line variation is not very sharp when you are writing with them but enough to make your penmanship sing :)

writeonThe 3 tines is to provide better flow with ink-air channel (2 versus 1 in a normal nib). Line variation only matters at the tip which modern music I see often tend to be like a stub. You can definitely find some YouTube on 3776 music who can explain more on it.
In my opinion, this Platinum music nib is not springy. It is rather stiff in my opinion compared to something like an Pelikan M800+ or Visconti Dreamtouch. This baffles me because I usually associate 14k with a little spring except this seems a harder alloy mix.
It is definitely not a crisp italic (sharp corners) and I often found this music not satisfying for lettering. It is smooth and enjoyable for line variation on general cursive writing that I keep it in my rotation.
