Thanks all for those thoughts... Seems worth a go, especially at this price.
I've loved Topre, but ended up moving off all of them due to the price. Just felt like too much money all the time, so something like this Plum might be perfect!

This board has has good capabilities with the programming software you can adjust any keys around to your needs. Plus, they're MX stem sliders so you know you'll have good compatibility with keysets. This board is one good solid performer or road warrior.

turbineseaplaneNone before? There's three good keycap sets currently on drop. It's just up to your taste and preference if you choose to go for them or not but they're really good.

All three them have different profiles but should be very 'at home' when you use them especially with the Varmilo keyset since its using standard OEM profile. I highly recommend the XDA Canvas keyset, it's one of those special sets you won't see again till at least another 2+ years.
Links are all over the place and you're merely just virtual window shopping for them since they're not available anymore as current. Good ones that are readily to look around for is on here when they pop up or from MechanicalKeyboards.com, originativeco.com and an easier spot would be Aliexpress.

turbineseaplaneHaving in mind full compatability, looking especially at that 5.5u spacebar, MiTos Canvas is your best bet at the moment.
That size is uncommon, even for custom groupbuys, because most companies don't have the tooling for that size.
The bad, shine through led backlight would be gone, all you get is ambient lightning.

MakamiIs it safe to assume the stock caps on the Plum are junky and it's desirable to replace?
My main hesitation is the white case which looks pretty cheap to my eye and how that would clash with any custom caps, you know?

turbineseaplaneNot really, its all about taste, but for me they belong to the better ones, not having a font or quality that makes you want to throw them away instant. Keep in mind, this is a nerd community, not all, but many folks here have a measurement that could be measured by others bizare or even absurd.
But this is valid for most nerd communities :)
Edit: The color of the case can be easily changed with a spraypaint job. I'm a big fan of ral colors: http://www.ralcolor.com/ for the most accurate result i want. The problem, the mk has to be disassembled to do that without doing any harm to the rest.

baesexThanks for the reply - I sort of have decided that before I get excited about any extra keysets, etc, I should see what I think of the Plum anyhow, so I'll be excited to check out the stock keys. Glad to hear you love them! That's very hopeful! Love it!

turbineseaplaneThe stocks are actually okay on these. I used mine for a good month over and can say they've served well before I switched them. Whereas my corsair K65 stock caps, swapped instant after a day.
I still use the stock Plum arrow keys till this day. They feel alright overall. It leans more to a coarse textured feel than the smooth textured scale. It's better than having stock ABS keycaps. Not a clear photo but this was about some days before I changed the stock caps

Can I ask, does something like these MiTo Canvas keys "fit" ok? Seems like to my eyes that the keycaps are a different "shape" and almost more rounded than stock - No clearance issues or anything weird when you do that?
I'm especially thinking about where the case meets the keys around the edge?

turbineseaplaneIt will fit. Have no worries. It is a different shape because it is using a different profile keycap shape; a new uniform profile called XD. The stock keycaps on the Plum84 or a large majority of keyboards out there use standard regular OEM profile. Look at this keycap profile chart and see for yourself if you haven't seen it yet.
