Oooh yea, get ready for a whole new generation of iPhone DJs. Time to send those geezers using those big circular things with grooves on them off the stage and back to grandpa land!
The artsy photos will likely appeal to iPhone users, who are the target audience of this drop, more than practical pictures would of those knobs labeled with weird letters that do random things when they twist them.
Seriously though, whoever is picking these drops must be very trendy. I wish they weren't so. I know that "portability" is the hip thing these days, but not everything needs to be portable. Most of us have primary residences and don't desire to port 99% of our possessions around with us. Most of us can lift a few lbs when we need to move something and don't require everything to be made out of ultra-light-weight, aircraft-grade, ultra-special materials. Portability, not to mention trendiness, usually comes at a cost both in terms of extra $$ and decreased features/usability to cram things into a smaller package. Audio equipment is something that does not need to be, and generally should not be, extraordinarily portable, at least until someone figures out how to do that without detracting from usability. Computers are another thing that shouldn't be portable: unless you're a novice who is satisfied using a highly inefficient "tablet", you'll want the real deal. Keyboards don't need to be portable either... you're unlikely to move them more than once a year. FFS, I even saw a "portable flashlight" on massdrop the other day. TL;DR: let's see more QUALITY goods and less TRENDY goods. And quality does NOT mean portable, made out of special materials, etc... those all fall under trendy.

zoomorphIMO, I can see a use for this when playing gigs at weddings, ceremonies, etc... Most weddings that I have played at have a premade track list and you just crossfade between the tracks in order. This would be nice so I don't have to take my actual decks when playing at gigs that don't require mixing and effects and whatnot. I can definitely see your point for home use, and I also despise iPhone DJs. However, when you play out frequently, this is just another tool to use in certain occasions.

zoomorphI think you're being hasty in judging this.
Have you tried Traktor DJ on the iPad? It's really quite capable. For just messing around with friends, this stuff will suffice.
