To give a really long explanation and totally kill the joke:
In the polls section of Massdrop, there was a poll for "Xbox One". Massdrop employees joined this poll early on and explained that since Wallmart can't get more than a few dollars of discount when they order consoles (and they order hundreds of thousands), it's impossible for Massdrop to get any kind of discount on game consoles.
After this statement, the poll went rather off the rails, with users submitting "Potato" (among other things) as an option to the poll on the Xbox.
(This submission of Potato is an instance of the internet slang form of 'potato', meaning "An object of poor quality." The opinion that gaming consoles are of poor quality or are "inferior" is a frequent joke made by PC gaming enthusiasts, and there are a lot of PC gaming enthusiasts on Massdrop. By submitting "potato", they where sharing their disparaging opinion about the Xbox.)
The submission for "Potato" in the Xbox poll began to gain votes. Eventually, Massdrop employees came out and said that in the spirit of good fun, they would actually have some kind of "potato" related drop if "potato" won the poll. With this news, potato went on to win the poll handily.
Since "potato" won the poll, Massdrop employees decided that this would be the way they honored that promise. So that's the full story of how this drop happened.

lelandbateyAn object of poor quality? I always thought it was just to be random; but thank you for the explanation.
