Looking to get a canister stove like this type for an upcoming group trip where we have one stove for cooking food and another smaller one for boiling water. can anyone tell me how this compares to the BRS-3000 stove?

You'd better go without the piezoelectric ignition as it doesn't last long: I changed mine 3 times on my ETA express stove set (similar) and finally gave up. It is an extra 14grams you don't want to carry around.
