Versitile stove
Great stove to use in winter, in the hills and with larger groups camping. Got the silencer and stove paw as well.

Good stove, light weight and powerful, it is better with the silencer to lower the noise.

Very well thought out
Had the omnilite a couple weeks now, I bought it to replace an old MSR XGK. I especially like the silent burner option as the standard tulip shaped “roarer burnet” found on so many expedition stoves tends to “blow torch” the center of the pot potentially burning your food. The multi port, silent burner makes a beautiful flame equal to the smallest burner on a high quality kitchen stove. You can make any stove top meal under the sun on this burner. Some quick points 1) the silent burner is only silent on medium, low & simmer on high it makes a “whooshing” sound about half as loud and a quarter annoying as the “roarer burner” on high. 2) the BTU output is similar to a regular jet boil (60% of typical expedition “snow melters”) 3) the omnilite will run perfectly with the gas canister inverted, BUT you absolutely must pre-heat the burner before inverting. Three ultralight tent stakes and a voile style ski strap make a great multi use canister stand. Do not try this if you don’t know what you’re doing. 4) roarer burner can be turned very low, but the flame spread is not ideal, a common issue with roarer burners. 5) Do not buy this stove to save 4 oz over the regular Omni, buy it for its superior cooking ability, its multi burner, flexibility, and or its reduced BTU output. It’s not meant to replace an expedition blow torch for melting endless gallons of water. 6) Do buy this stove with the silent burner if you cook gourmet food especially fried or sautéed entrees for 2-4 people. 7) With the stock burner it’s also the perfect winter stove for the solo traveler. CONS: 1) I was not impressed with the bulky, ill fitting, really heavy stuff sack. 2) The repair kit did not include a spare retaining clip for the silent burner, since this clip came off in shipping not having a spare in the repair kit seems short sighted. I love this stove and absolutely believe that it’s destined to become a favored classic with a devoted following for years to come.

Unboxing was great. Bought some MSR white gas, and had ordered a BernieDawg OmniPup silencer cap separately. Fired up the OmniLite first without the OmniPup (took BernieDawg advice and primed with alcohol fuel) ... wow! is that thing loud! Sure, it boiled a half liter of water very fast, but I was worried it would just take off and head for low earth orbit. Let the stove cool and fired it up with the OmniPup -- an incredible difference. I could actually carry on a conversation while my water was boiling, and the simmer works much better with the cap. As a side benefit, when properly aligned, the hole pattern in the OmniPup helps keep the flame from blasting the tips of the pot supports. I have not yet tried the stove with an (MSR brand) isobutane canister. Pros:
  • Nice and stable with the Paw.
  • Super easy to prime with alcohol fuel (I usually use Kleen Strip Green).
  • Pump is easy to use, even with gloves.
  • Instructions built into rolltop stove sack.
  • Nozzle change is easy and straightforward.
  • Flexible fuel line.
  • OmniPup!
Cons:
  • Fuel line placement + valve placement makes it difficult to surround completely with my aftermarket folding aluminum windscreen (closing near-completely means the valve is inaccessible).
  • I have read that the leather pump cup can produce issues if it becomes misshapen (I've not had the stove long enough nor used it in the field enough to have first-hand knowledge of that).
  • Not thread-compatible with MSR fuel bottles or MSR expedition caps (technically, that's a fail in the MSR side, as my Optimus bottle and expedition cap work just fine with the Primus threads). I can still use the MSR bottle for extra fuel transport (for my Coleman, for example).
  • Will have to roll my own isobutane canister upside-down-stand (Whisperlite Universal comes with such a stand, which is not sold separately by MSR).
All in all, very pleased, a huge step up from my old Coleman dual-fuel stove (which, for the price, I fully expected it to be). And, the price was not terribly different from an MSR Whisperlite Universal, which is the other stove I was considering. Other thoughts:
  • I have an 0.6 liter Primus bottle and a set of Optimus expedition (non-child-resistant) caps on order.
  • The OmniPup cap has already gotten stuck in the bell once when it settled while cooling, as the BernieDawg instructions warn about. I prevent this by removing the OmniPup with multi-tool pliers before it has fully cooled. (I do this because it's much easier to pour in alcohol fuel for priming without the cap in place).
  • I use a "ranger band" made from a half-inch length of old bike inner tube to hold the OmniPup in the stove bell when the stove is packed up, so there's no rattle or denting.

Can’t go wrong with the Omnifuel (my issued stove) or the Omnilite (my current stove). I have the BernieDawg also which makes it possible to simmer unlike the OEM Primus version, the BernieDawg is also lighter with no under burns and less noise...highly recommend this system, you can definitely depend on it 👍🏻👍🏻

razarbel12The BernieDawg silencer is not available through Massdrop, unfortunately only the Primus OEM silencer was available with the Omnilite Ti through Massdrop...don’t waste your money on the OEM; 1) Turns the stove into a smaller jet engine, sure it’s less loud but it’s still a jet engine. (ESL edit) 2 Ounces = Pounds and Pounds =Pain 3) It has terrible underburn issues and forget about cooking anything below “less loud jet engine” setting. (ESL edit) YMMV 👍🏻

Revised Review
Fuel has started to leak from where the "regulator" is brazed to the stove. This happened after the second use. As the stove is transported in suitably sized pot, I do not think it was damaged my me during transportation. Loses another star for price compared to the OmniFuel. The OmniFuel, which I also own is a better stove. Plus: slightly lighter weight, smaller, silencer option Minus: less stable than OmniFuel, pot stand mechanism does not lock.

Overall it is a very nice stove. Definitely the nicest I have owned and, I think, better than any others I have found in stores. It is a bit loud, but not as bad as some. I will use it a bit before deciding whether to buy a silencer. The storage bag is also very heavy and solid. Good for storing it at home but I will use something else when carrying it.

I have a MSR International and a Dragonfly as well as a Svea. The Svea is my go-to stove as long as I can get Shellite/Naptha. I bought the Omnilite because of it's total flexibility with different liquid fuels (as are the MSRs), but also by purchasing adapters, I can use 3 different gas canisters. The only thing more flexible than the omnilite is a wood (?) fire. The Omnilite's only negative is it's cost.

As long as you dont mind tinkering with your stove (unlike the plug and play maintenance free gas stoves) its the best stove around and it works everywhere fuel is available around the world.
