Dear Massdrop,
I would have preferred being asked if I would like to wait longer until the order was fulfilled rather than canceling the order without input from me.
I, and others on the drop, clearly wanted the knife at that price and are aware of normal Massdrop time frames with respect to order fulfillment... So one could have reasonably wondered what would another month have mattered?
Now I and others on the original drop now must request new drop notification (whenever that might happen), not miss the notification when (and if) it is sent, hope it is still at the same price, and hope we get into the drop before any limited quantities run out.
I wish for Massdrop to automatically add me ([prioritized and added BEFORE opening the drop to the community] with others from this canceled drop who want the same) to the next drop of this exact item at this exact price using my exact same original order parameters (e.g., MOP, shipping address).
Why was this drop even offered if there was not what I gather to be the normal pre-drop coordination/confirmation of fulfillment capability with/by the vendor to ensure such? Furthermore, what will be different about this drop or any other in the future?
Thank you, -Shayne

It has been brought to our attention that due to an unexpected issue with a supplier, our vendor is no longer able to guarantee this product in a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, because we do not have a clear timeline to source these, we have made the difficult decision to cancel and refund the full drop.
Your order has been cancelled and you can expect to see your funds back on your payment method in the next 2-3 business days.
We are working to bring this drop back to the site as soon as the vendor is able to verify availability. If you would like to be notified when this drop runs again, please hit the blue “request” button on the drop page.
Please feel free to respond to this email if you have any questions or concerns and someone will help you out.

scaplesHey scaples,
I hear you and understand where you're coming from. The decision to cancel everyone is not one we like to make, but is one that we sometimes choose based on our experience with very similar situations in the past. When vendors were uncertain of fulfillment for whatever reason we used to opt more often for waiting it out and keeping people updated.
However, we found the experience for everyone was more confusing and frustrating than anything. Generally in limbo for months with vague "still working on it" updates that would often end up being cancelled anyway because of some inability to fulfill. As one of our employees often says, it's very much pulling off the bandaid. We can slowly peel it off or rip it and either way end up in the same place.
Logistically it became difficult trying to coordinate with the vendor to keep updating the quantity ordered, for the buyers it was more time they didn't have to make another call and try to work with the vendor now that the quantity had changed, for Support it was more angry tickets about their missing updates or items, and for all of our users it was a very poor experience.
For the availability this time, our vendor went through a recent buyout and during the process there was some confusion in our communication or over promising. I'm not sure which, but at the time we launched this we were confident that stock was available. At some point after we were notified that these were in fact unavailable for an unspecified amount of time. Among other things we are working on ways to ensure both vendors and ourselves are held more accountable for nondelivery and to better validate the quantity promised.
Again, I completely understand how it feels to get cancelled on. I've been in a couple myself and I know it sucks. I don't know that I can prejoin everyone, but I'll work with dev to see if it's possible. What I definitely can do is work with Support to make a list of everyone in this drop and then send a private email as an early notice before anyone else if this comes back.
