Too bad it isn't a deeper carry. I do a lot of hiking cross country and with a knife that isn't deep carry, snagging and pulling the knife out happens. I have lost 2 this way and only go with deep carry now, like Brous Blades etc. The D2 steels is good and holds a fine edge when heat treated correctly. I noticed someone said it rusts easily? Never had this issue at all. I like the satin finish. Have stone, acid wash etc but don't like black as it scars too easily but acid and satin hold up well.

jamato8Maybe its rusting because its not D2steel maybe the carbon levels in the steel are not correct that hum read some of the comments

jamato8If you completely ignore the amount of potential corrosion you're subjecting it to, and you lead a salty life, like a backpacker or someone in Florida, D2 will stain or even rust noticeably sooner than true stainless steels.
It probably never gave you any trouble because it's not very prone to staining or rusting, what with the 12.5% chromium content of it. I've had a couple of small spots develop on a couple of D2 knives before, but always due to specific circumstances.

OmniseedThis knife was tested at the the University of Kingston Ontario in their metal ology Department their tests show that there's only 8.5% chromium so is it real D2 steel maybe in China but not in Canada or the USA
Ted1463I just posted our results above confirming that it's D2 according to AISI specs. If you have the test results that confirm the knife tested is the same one sold here, and an analysis of the chemical composition showing otherwise, we'd be glad to take that into consideration. Without any other complete info to work from, the best information that I have is the lab analysis that we had done, which seems to be conclusive that it is, in fact, D2 steel.
PS - I looked up that school, which is called Queen's University of Kingston, and they don't appear to have a "metal ology" department, or a metallurgy department for that matter. http://my.me.queensu.ca/ They do have a Mechanical and Materials Engineering program, but I didn't find info about testing facilities.
