Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Sculpted-profile The majority of custom keycap sets are sculpted-profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT, etc. - more on profiles generally here) so let’s start there. Because each row has a unique keycap shape, alt layouts require a unique keycap for each legend that moves off its QWERTY row. What is the difference between total kits and purchased?
Also what is the difference between the sum of kits sold in the drop and update and Massdrops official 8,234 Sold number. I added up the number sold for each kit in the drop update and only came up with 6,537 kits sold.
Massdrop's Purchased number used to be just the purchases for the current live drop. But on 4/13 they changed to including all past drop Purchases as well. This is Round 3 of SA Pulse. I estimated that R1 + R2 Purchases were 3080 before R3 went live, so I have been subtracting that from Massdrop's Purchased number starting 4/13.
Like you, I also calculate that 6537 is the kit total from Massdrop's latest spreadsheet, which is what is in the top left graph on the first page of History.
I had been using the number of kits sold in 4/26 sheet to try and predict which kits would drop based on Massdrop's purchased number. I thought that Massdrop's purchased number was the number of kits sold this drop and the 4/29 spreadsheet would add up to something close to, but less than, the purchased number. Needless to say, my predictions were a bit off.
