Didn't Ray-Bans use to be just nice cheap $30 glasses, anyway...
They're not supposed to be luxury style. The only thing you guys should be upset about is that they're a blue collar brand, for everyone, that's now owned by an "evil" giant company.... And the prices actually went way up. Not complaining about them being made in China. Or that there're somehow cheaper than the gas station sunglasses they once were. Hahaha. So funny. "Gimme my 'merica back!" (Never was what we think it was.)

darkpanacea$30 used to be a lot of money. Ray-ban were always pricy for the premium line with the B&L G-15 glass. They still have premium product available, but this is not it... and those Raens you're so fond of...meh...at least those Wileys, anyway. I have a pair of the Arlo that I do really like.

MotorradNo $30 was not ~$200 dollars when they cost that, luxottica is a terrible company and the purposely raise the prices because the can.

Alee.G??? $30 was a lot of money in the 70's. You disagree with that? And in case you have not been paying attention to economics for the past millennium, ALL companies purposely raise the prices when they can. What entitlement...

Motorradthats irrelevent, I never said they "weren't" a lot of money, I said they didn't cost around $200. They cost what would be closer to $100, that's still a huge inflation in price. now since you want to talk economic, luxottica is the largest eyeware company in the world, much bigger than bauchs & laumb where. Considering the scale of their production is so much higher theyre be able to produce it at a much cheaper price, this means they could offer it to consumers cheaper and still profit, instead they choose to jack up prices even more just for pure profit. also your just dead wrong "ALL" companies don't raise prices whenever they can, sometimes it's more profitable to offer your product at a lower price to increase the amount sold. If your gonna make snide remarks about "paying attention to economics" please atleast learn the basics yourself. and please keep your shitty passive aggressive remarks to yourself. nothing I said was "entitled", that would mean I believe they OWE me a cheaper pair, which I don't. I do however believe they're a horrible company with a monopoly on the eyeglass market, and should be called out on it at evey opportunity. this explains their business practices quite well

MotorradYou clearly "gave a shit" enough to write a passive agressive whiney reply and then act like you don't care because I shut down every ridiculous claim you made. You need to grow up and be able to admit when you wrong. I don't even understand why you have to get so dickinsh defending a terrible company that doesn't care about you in the slightest.

Alee.Ghey man, whatever you need to tell yourself to feel righteous; you're not dickinsh(!) at all. I'm sure it's all very important to you and that you understand whatever it was you wrote on a scholarly level.

MotorradYes please be more passive aggressive and and use the fact that I misspelled a word as some sort of weird ad hominem attack, you keep replying, clearly I've hit a nerve. And no I don't feel "righteous" I feel annoyed you've used this thread to do nothing but provide inaccurate information and make personal attacks, you've contributed nothing to this discussion. And now you want to act all pissy when you get shut down. I'll say it again; You need to grow up, "man."

Alee.Ghahaha. wow, you're the easiest troll of the year... and the most dickinsh. I make one tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic remark and you just start screaming into the mirror and trying to make me watch youtube? haha and you're saying you struck MY nerve and that I need to grow up and that I'm acting "pissy"? hahaha. Surely, even someone as clueless, unstable and with as many issues as yourself can see the irony there, or is your self-awareness really as lacking as I had originally surmised? BTW. not that it really matters, because there's has never been an argument here (just you cluelessly yammering on a soapbox)...$30 in 1970 = $190 in 2017. The only thing you "shut down", genius, was whatever loony argument you projected in my direction. I genuinely do not give a shit about what you may or may not have learned on the youtubes...watching you continue to beat your head against the wall is all the entertainment I require, "man". Seriously, you shouldn't be trolled so easily...it's just embarrassing.

Motorrad"As many issues" projecting much? First of all I was obviously I was annoyed, I made no attempt to hide that. Unlike you I'm not pretending to be above getting annoyed at things people say on the internet, especially a forum like this. Secondly 1970 is not "the 70s", if I put I 1979 I get $107, so skewering for your argument really won't help. Not to mention that only accounts for the buying power of the dollar not then buying power of the consumer. The 70s was a considerably prosperous time over all. And nice job done playing your passive agressiveness as being "tounge in cheek" Also screaming into the mirror would only work if you didn't keep responding. Most importantly if you think this is a place to "troll" you obviously shouldn't be using these forums. Go to reddit or youtube to satisfy your weird obsession. And spending a couple minutes to type out a coherent reply is hardly "banging my head against a wall" Believe it or not I think this is a place to have relevant coherent discussion around what's being sold.

Alee.GAlso as the OP, I'm telling you I meant to leave the inflation concept out, most people don't think of that. I was stating even back then, I was told, they could be bought for $30 (today's money) at a drugstore, and that these glasses are not originally a "luxury" style brand. They're supposed to be like... I dunno blue collar normal cheap American glasses. So I think it's funny when someone says, "uhg Ray Bans!! They used to be so much better quality! America is going down hill... brrrrrr!" They're more expensive and more valuable. I think they look like you're "trying" which is uncool. I do AO Aviators. From the army surplus store... for 55 bucks... because they cover my eyeballs and they are glass and metal. It also cracks me up, "remember when they were made out of REAL ACETATE!?! Man those were the days. America brrrrrrr hell brrrrr handbasket brrrr!!" Acetate? Seriously it's just plastic. *nearly like any other Plastic. What. Ever. Bro.

darkpanaceaI don't know whether you thought I was disagreeing with you or not, because I pretty much agree with what your saying. I always heard of raybans as a middle of the road glasses that everyone could wear, not the cheapest but not luxury by any means. i just don't believe the changes made currently are enough to justify their current price. As far as acetate I was actually refering to that only in recent years, in honestly not entirely sure what baus and lombs pairs where made of, luxottica used to use real acetate. And I suppose "carved or hand carved" would be a more appropriate term. The difference is one is physically carved from a block of acetate whereas the other is injection molded and more prone to breaking and containing faults Now personally I just ware nylon frames as they're lighter weight and more durable overall and you won't catch me paying over $60 for a pair of shades. What's this AO brand you talk about though? Ive honestly been looking for a dressier pair of glass lense sunglasses and I'm intrigue.

Alee.Ghaha. you give yourself WAY too much credit. you made an argument where there was none just so you could rant about sunglasses(aka 'banging your head against a wall' and 'screaming into the mirror')...and I have a "weird obsession"...hahaha. Damn, you're really hung up on calling people passive-aggressive, I see that you've done that a lot. Just stop being so hyperbolic and keep your shit together a bit more and you won't be so easily trolled. You really do seem entitled, though.

Motorradsaying stop being so hyperbolic is a little hypocritical considering that's pretty much ever statement you've made so far "screaming in the mirror" is the defention of hyperbole. Ive spend maybe 20mins total arguing with you, of which you've spent arguing back the whole time. Your saying I've made an argument out of nowhere but you where the first one to post a rude douchey reply for no reason and be wrong to boot, I guess being called wrong is to much for you? Clearly your hung up on what I've said. and I think your wayyy over estimated how annoyed I was. What you said annoyed me and I'm someone who doesn't mind arguing, if I thought I was doing anything righteous I wouldn't be on massdrop.Secondly, I'm still trying to find out what about this makes me "entitled." I'm agruing with you because I disagree. I don't feel as if I'm owed something. That is the one definition of entitled, you really like to use a lot of words you don't understand. I've called only you passive aggressive and it's not "hung up" it's an accurate descr of your behavior.

audiblefirst of all that YouTube video is just the easiest introduction on the topic, their are lots of other resources which go more in depth, I posted that for the sake of anyone who might have been intrested in the topic and wanted a good starting point. Secondly the amount of hyperbole in your post is ridiculous, not everything that bothers you is a "crusade" believe it or not there is a full range of feeling between not caring and full on crusade, this falls about on par with rude drivers on the road, and it's pretty clear the majority of this is more over attitude than the defense of luxottic so cut the "evils of capitalism" shit so far all you've done is leave a rude reply of no substance.

audibleha. now you've triggered him too. he's still pretty convinced there is actually an argument here and that he is 'right' and I am 'wrong'. What this clown does not understand, or even care to see, is that I know all this and, in fact, agree with him. I think he just freaked out when I call him entitled. I'm defending luxottica? phht. and "ALL companies purposely raise the prices when they can" is cynical, but far from inaccurate. and then he just WENT OFF...hahaha. too easy.
